Ladies & Gentlemen,
Happy New Year! The ECRHA hopes that everyone finds themselves happy and
healthy in preparation for 2001.
1. ECRHA Signs On First Two Senior Executives
As the ECRHA continues to expand in numbers and programs, we also have
increased our staff, including the creation of two Senior Executive
positions. These Senior Executives will act as mentors to the students
handling the responsibilities of the ECRHA.
Filling the role of College Club Senior Executive and advising on the
ECRHA's interaction with and in collegiate athletics is Mr. Peter Hopsicker.
As Recreational Sports Director for PSU Altoona, Mr. Hopsicker has been
instrumental in developing quality sports programs for college students,
especially supporting the "Altoids" Roller Hockey Club's development of an
intramural league, travel team, and an on-campus facility. With a degree in
Sports Management from Syracuse U., Mr. Hopsicker has also devoted a serious
amount of time to getting involved in the issues surrounding the ECRHA
before volunteering for this position.
The role of Business Senior Executive is being graciously filled by Mr.
Benny Gulakiw. With a History and International Relations degree from SUNY
Brockport, Mr. Gulakiw has been and continues to be involved in the Buffalo
sports entertainment industry. He currently serves as the Vice President of
Operations for the Buffalo Wings Pro & Amateur Roller Hockey program and has
held various other positions, such as the Vice President and General Manager
of the Buffalo Gladiators, the Director of Sales and Marketing for the
Buffalo Stampede, the Floor Manager for both the Bandits and Sabres as well
as the Promotions Coordinator for the Buffalo Blizzard.
Mr. Gulakiw had this to say about his involvement in the ECRHA:
"I am pleased to be accepted as the Business Senior Executive for the ECRHA.
I have been involved in roller hockey for seven years and it has become
clear to me that the development of the sport at the collegiate level is the
key to developing the sport overall. Having a strong and well organized
college roller hockey league is important in grooming potential future pro
players as well as giving kids (both boys and girls) an opportunity to
continue playing the sport they love while earning a college education at
the same time. As the college leagues grow and become more established, the
sport of inline hockey comes closer to finally achieving the legitimacy and
credibility it has been seeking for so long."
To Mr. Hopsicker and Mr. Gulakiw, on behalf of the ECRHA and everyone
involved, we welcome you to our organization and wish each of you the best
of luck in your new positions.
Thank you for joining us and deeming the ECRHA worthy of your time and
effort.

THANK YOU:
This newsletter's thank you goes out to Mike Burke, ECRHA Webmaster & CIO.
Mike has taken on the responsibilities of organizing Team ECRHA, our summer
tournament team, as well as redesigning and maintaining this season's
website, compiling the MAR statistics, and even scorekeeping at MAR events.
Mr. Burke does all this while playing goaltender for the Wilkes University
and double majoring in Computer Science and Music. To Mr. Burke, I would
like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You!" on behalf of everyone in
the ECRHA.

3. Mid-Atlantic Region Spring Schedule
The ECRHA announces the dates and locations for the Spring portion of the
2000-2001 MAR season. Check out the details via this link:

4. Midwest Region vs Mid-Atlantic Region
The first cross-region play occurred this weekend when Pittsburgh and Penn
State, two Mid-Atlantic powerhouses, traveled to Columbus, Ohio to play some
of the top Midwest Region teams in their final event of the semester. When
the smoke cleared, the Mid-Atlantic Region went 2-3-1 for the weekend. It
looks like the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic Regions will have to wait until
Nationals to settle the question of which region has the tougher
competition.
