Flash Show It in 2nd half! Down Connecticut 12-7 in final
Williamsburg, VA -- Trailing 4-1 at the intermission, the New York Flash roared back in the second half to capture the W-MLRH Spring Challenge series Championship with a 12-7 win over the Connecticut Lightning. The Flash outscored the Lightning 5-1 in the 3rd period to take a 6-5 lead after three periods and added six more in the final stanza to put the game out of reach.
At times, the game more resembled a MLRH men's full-check game, with the Flash racking up more penalty minutes than the Marple Gladiators in their championship game. Of the eight penalties called, seven were roughing and one was for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Lindsay Reilly, Paula Malglanerra and LeAnne Petriluk all tallied hat tricks for the Flash, while Lauren Powers and Alison Small had two goal games for Connecticut.
Both teams ganged up on the Washington Spin on Saturday, the Flash knocking off the Spin sisters, 16-9, while Connecticut took an 8-1 decision. A four-goal outing from the Lightning's Karen Doria proved too much for Washington. New York's Lindsay Reilly again proved to be the Spin's nemesis; this time Ms. Reilly produced a 7-goal game!
W-MLRH Notes: Adam Stio has sold the rights to A. J. Wertz of TEAM USA Sports of Long Island. Stio will now serve as Commissioner of the W-MLRH. Plans are for an expanded league to return for Fall 2003 play.
