    Sponsorship For College Teams

I was wondering why college teams are not allowed to have sponsors on their equipment. Since most college students are very broke the extra money that the team could potentially receive could be very beneficial. As rink time and travel expenses grow larger every year and the school refuses to increase the amount in the club sports budget players are being asked to dig deeper in to their already very shallow pockets. I know the NCAA has strict restrictions on sponsorship but since NCAA recognition seems far off I don't see how this is an issue. My team had to cut back on practice time this year due to a lack of funds. With this extra money I think a lot of the CRHL teams could improve the product they put on the rink. This does not have to be a major sponsorship, but even a few dollars from a local bar or restaurant would go a long way. Just a thought.

Actually I am not entirely in disagreement with you and I think your arguments have a lot of merit. I think that there would have to be some restrictions on the type, number and size of anything placed on uniforms though. We don't want beer sponsorships and the like, and we certainly don't want players looking like NASCAR race cars. It's definitely something to debate, but in the end I have a feeling that CRHL authorities will come down against it everytime.

My team did a decent job cultivating sponsors on our warmups, bags, and a bunch of other non-game equipment. Besides, until we're televised, I know that the other stuff has a lot more visibility, especially when you're trying to land local businesses (carrying your bag around campus, etc.).

Has anyone seen the pro european hockey? The guys look like frickin Nascar! The have sponsor logos on every inch of their uniforms. I think this is what they are trying to avoid. Once you have sponsors all over the place, it becomes very hard to push them away if we ever were NCAA recognized.

I think someone propsed being sponsored by Anheuser-Busch at the start of this season, and the idea was deemed contrary to the ideals of CRHL. Short of being sponsored by Saddam's Republican Guard, I doubt there is much that could hurt the credibility of our league more than promoting the view of college students as a bunch of drunks.

Dollar for dollar (which is what matters in college right?) I like Busch Light, Keystone Light, and Natty Light... If I didn't have to pay enormous dues for hockey, Bud Lite Bottles would be my style....
