Shin pads...

Yeah, I need to get a new pair of shin pads and wanted to know if anyone knows of some good lightweight pads, at a reasonable price (rink rats). I've been searching, and havent found too many good deals for what I am looking for. The pads need to be under $40, but thats what I get when I spend all my money on sticks and skates.

Most of the shinpads you find today are made for ice hockey and have way too much padding, imo. I use an old pair I bought from Play it Again Sports and they work fine, give me enough protection and all, you might want to check there if you are looking for something not very bulky and reasonably priced.

I was thinking about getting a pair of the higher end franklin pads, I saw them pretty affordable, and the pair I've had of them were very lightweight and not to much padding. I dont even like to use the ice shin pads, while playing ice, minumn padding for me. I use the ratty old elbow pads that have almost mo pading just because they are the easiest to move in and pull your shots off. I did go to my trusty play it again this weekend and all they had were 10' and 12' pads for some reason.

I've never seen the franklin pads in person, I saw the online a few times but the pictures I saw weren't that great, they just showed the front and I couldn't tell how much pading was hidden back there.

here's the latest helpful hint from DannyG, one that is not exactly guaranteed to make everybody think your cool, but it really works...

since our roller hockey pants come down and cover the instep of your skates, to give you that cool, punk-baggy look, underneath the pants, I have taken to wearing baseball catcher's shin guards...

before you laugh (or, at least when you calm back down from all your laughing so hard)...

1. I have been drilled on the laces a couple of times real good, because I stand in there even against the hotshot slapshot intimidator-predators in our local league. The front top-of-the-foot pad on my (baseball style) shin pads now prevent that problem. Mine also have real thick side ankle pads as well.

2. The double knee pad that protects slightly above the knee really helps also.

3. The straps are easy on/off, and adjustable.

4. The are light and extremely protective...if they are made to withstand a 100 mile/hour fast ball, and foul tips, then they can certainly handle anything an inline hockey puck has to offer.

I only paid $20 for 'em, and have worn 'em now for four years. I highly recommend this. Nobody in my league has laughed at me (yet) to my face. Nobody else, however, including my devoted daughter, has followed my excellent example, either...so, oh, well.

We note that baseball catchers are now cool with goalkeeper's masks.

I think my older brother might have a pair that would fit me, because he has been a catcher for quite awhile.I never eallythought about doing that, but if it could tae a fastball like you said than a puck should be easily handeled as well. I might try it out, but come to te rink with my pants and shins on already for awhile. lol

They arent bad but not great either, the only reason I got them was because I ordered some bilt rite's from hockeygear.com and they sent me those instead.
