CRHL - MIDWEST
The midwest region is more competetive this year then in the past. Some teams in this league are great, some are good, but there are no bad Division I teams in the league. As for Division III, they can actually be better then the DI teams cause any body can take 3 hours at a community college and play. woo hoo. thats why DIII teams get stuck with all the sucky playing times. DII Teams are decent but lets face it, DII and DIII should be in the same boat. What we have 2 DIII teams? who are 1-1 against each other cause they cant figure out how to get to the rink, maybe they should take map reading or time management in those 3 hours of community college. (just kidding guys).
Michigan State - Dante, well great guy to have on your team if you have good defense. I have seen him skate backwards once, it was in a drill. Mackert in my opinion is the best college roller hockey player in the game, he scores, playes stellar defense and is out there on the penalty kill and power play. The way Michigan States goalies are playing maybe he should get in the net. HaHa. Coach Tremblay is by far the best coach in the CRHL, not that he has a lot of competition but the man is smart and really knows how to win. Michigan State gets my vote for the classiest team in the MCRHL.
Purdue - Solid! They have a great team. There is no real standout player on the team, everyone contributes. Thats what it takes to win. They do a great job on defense and know how to put the puck in the net. I look for Purdue to make the top 8 in the nation again and possibly the top 4.
Michigan - Well they are michigan! Should make nationals, but who knows, the seasons nearly half over. They have a nice facility there in ann arbor, the surface was pretty fast.
Illinois - By far the most gritty hard working team in the MCRHL. Shedden, Hinkle, Smith, and Weith are the teams backbone though. Shedden is the Claude Lemieux or the Eas Tikkanen of the league though as he is an agitator who seams to score big goals at the right time. Momentum should carry this team to nationals, but they are winless there the past two years.
Ohio State - Good Team, but still needing some fine tuning. They will have to compete very hard to make it too nationals, they should be amoung the top having the biggest school in the MCRHL I believe. It depends on how Illinois and Illinois State play against them.
Illinois State - What to say about ISU. The first thing everyone says about ISU is where is Tom Keller? First of all Tom Keller was one guy on a team full of talent, Mark Harrington, Bryan Doyle, and Greg Bolek. After beating Michigan State and Purdue last season taking 3rd at the winternational event in St Louis, the team literally fell apart. By far one of the most talented in the league with 2 time defensemen of the year in the MCRHL Paul Kummer on the blueline this team should be a top 2 or 3 team. ISU bosts players from USA Junior Ice Hockey Program, and talent from the Chicago area. The team needs a coach and a couple guys to step up their play, players such as Kummer and Jerry Morris step up every game and the recent play of linemates Brian Davis a Team USA product and Billy Halls from Danville could be a start. Tying Purdue once and Michigan twice this season, they have lost to U of I and Ohio state. Chris Harej is probably the leagues best netminder. ISU could have a strong second half and still make it nationals but they have to have the desire to win, which seems very possible if they want it!
