Re: Setting the Record Straight
Hi Benny,
Great post. Thanks very much for taking the time to respond in depth. I also like to see issues being aired, as long as it doesn't turn into personal attacks and pure self-interest. When that happens, lawsuits are threatened, and it's IHC that receives the threats, not the individual making the posts in question.
Yes, there are protections built into the law concerning free speech. However, that doesn't stop frivolous lawsuits, and those sued have to defend themselves even when they've done nothing wrong. A couple years back, a KILLer jerk threatened to sue IHC for an OPINION someone I didn't even know had posted. I may or may not have agree with the opinion, but I did believe the person posting it had every right to state his opinion.
The guy who threatened to sue obviously didn't care about free speech; rather, he'd have rather had NO speech, when it came to comments about his organization that weren't perfectly positive. I don't know why people like that live in America; there are plenty of other countries they can live where free speech doesn't exist. Somehow, I don't think they'd like it much.
Again, I appreciate the detailed post, and I appreciate Jason Klein for allowing you to defend the Wings' organization rather than demanding the post in question be taken down or threatening to sue IHC for it. That's certainly a BREATH of fresh air!
Sincerely,
