Thread: D2 Interregionals?

    D2 Interregionals?

Was hoping to put together a sick D2 Interregional this year. Any ideas? Which teams would be down to travel and play? Colorado is always a good option with the number of D2 teams there and the central location for WCRHL, MCRHL, SCHL and Great Plains teams.

Our on campus rink is scheduled to be completed late this year or early in 2013. As a result, we are planning an inter-regional event for Feb 9-10 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. We are 400 miles from St. Louis and roughly 500 miles from Denver and Dallas. We have traveled extensively over the years and are hoping that other regions will be able to join us in christening our olympic sized rink in February. The inline rink is a part of a $22.5M expansion project of our rec center that was approved and funded by the students 4+ years ago. Construction has been ongoing for the past year+. We are really looking forward to its completion.

What's a reasonable way for long distance teams flying in to get to Manhattan? It's kind of in a remote location. Just curious because we'd be flying in from Phoenix/Tucson if we go so it'd be tough to keep expenses down.

I'm really making a push to have us make an inter-regional this year. An on-campus event would be very sick, but would probably only make me super jealous.

Kevin - just loooked really quick - manhattan and topkea both have airports.

I took a little time and this what I figured out for costs, thought this might help other teams that would be flying in..

    Interregional Info
January 2013? (Hopefully.. just not Jan. 13 or MLK Weekend!) in Manhattan, KS (Kansas State University)

Round Trip Flight from TUC to KC at $260/person + Bags = $285

    Van Rental--
    $105/day (24 hr period = 1 day) (with 200 free miles/day) = $250 / 12 = $21/person
Hotel at $80/night for two nights is $40/person
    GAS (230 miles) (20 Gallons at $3.80) = about $8/person

    Total: $355/person

Now I have no idea if this is doable for us but at least we know what we'd be dealing with here.

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away, but I've been on vacation and working on my house... Manhattan has an airport and a few daily flights. The other option would be Kansas City ( about 2 hour drive ) The inter-regional should be February 9-10, not January. There have been some construction delays along the way, but the February dates still look good at this point. I will keep everyone appraised of the situation. I am still counting on being able to do this.

Inter-Regional in Pittsburgh has room for 2-3 DII teams as well. Slippery Rock and Binghamton have both committed to attend at this point, would like to see 2 or 3 more DII schools do the same.

When would that interregional in Pittsburgh be? UNC Charlotte is looking to go to an interregional this year if we are able to.

The D2 inter-regional in Manhattan, KS is now 95% sure for February 9-10, 2013.

    Current teams scheduled are :
    GPCIHL - K-State, Maryville U., Missouri S&T, Washington U., St. Louis U.
    RMCRHA - U of Colorado@ Colorado Springs
SCHL - Texas State@ San Marcos

Our on campus rink is progressing very well. Boards are installed, flooring is going in right now. Expected completion date is January 22, 2013. Rink is 100x200, Olympic size sport court, boards and glass. If you are looking on google maps, the rink is in the Chester E Peters Rec Center on the K-State campus in Manhattan, KS. the google map is current enough to show the rink expansion on the NW corner of the building.

We are definitely looking forward to hosting many more games in the Fall of 2013.We're only hosting this one week-end this season in order to introduce our rec center staff to the 'mayhem' of a hockey week-end. We still have room if any other teams want to join us.
