    2012 Nationals at the Beach?

The Rinks at Huntington Beach Inline (Home of the NCRHA Divison 1 National Champion Long Beach State 49ers) is in the process of adding a third (larger) rink in preparation for JO's in July. I think it would be a great place to hold the 2012 NCRHA Nationals. Many of the people I have talked to across the country have told me that they would love to come to beautiful Southern California for Nationals.

Been there done that in 2010 in San Jose, CA... Considering most of the teams in the NCRHA are in the East, I'd like to see it in the Eastern Time Zone. I think it is the East's turn, considering the West had it in 2010, Midwest (MCRHL) had it in 2010-2011. Travel is a big expense to these so it seems to me it is only fair to move it around every year.

I wouldn't mind seeing it in St. Louis or Ft. Myers this year. Supposedly Lindenwood just built a rink for their teams.

I think the NCRHA does a good job of moving Nationals around. It would, however, be cool to have some sort of poll/survey/input to Nationals locations on a year-to-year basis.

EX: What attractions would you like near you?

You can have the tournament in almost any region and have a beach, a themepark, or whatever.

Disney world would have been ideal but they just sold all of their stuff to host a hockey tournament. Ft myers causes an issue because it would be very expensive to travel to. You would either have to fly into ft lauderdale and rent a car or fly into ft myers which is very expensive. Lake worth presents similar problems.

In my opinion snellville, ga is not a suitable location even with the close proximity to Atlanta airport. While the rinks are solid, the locker rooms cant fit a team of 8 year olds, let alone college students.

If the ncrha is willing to make teams spend a lot on travel, then ft. Myers should be the location in the next year or 2.

Not bad for the 2nd alternate...

does the ncrha own any of their own flooring for rinks?

JetBlue flies to Fort Myers, right? Not that they are dirt cheap any more, but you can usually get a decent deal there. What's Skatium like? Is it multiple roller rinks, or would they have to lay down a surface?

No. Currently NCRHA needs to rent floors.

I know Southwest flies into KRSW as well. If I remember correctly from last time I was down there, Skatium has one roller surface and one ice surface.

Attractions I'd like to see/have near me:
Girls in bikinis by water. (indoor pools don't count)

So...Madison and Chicago during late-winter don't count. Nor does the NE.

Germaine arena would be the ideal choice if you chose ft. Myers. If the league rents a surface how much more would it cost to rent boards and host the tournament in disney's wide world of sports. While it would be a high rental fee hosting nationals at Disney opens up a multitude of possibilities. Has the league ever considered this option?

Just as a ballpark estimate, renting two floors with boards for the event would run on the order of $30k with shipping. This wouldn't include any costs incurred to rent or staff the facility.

The problem with Germain is that the ECHL season is still going on in April. You'd have to work it around that obviously, and a 7 day rental is tough for that.

Disney seemed to do little for the AIHL, to the point where they didn't want to have it back this year (Disney didn't want it, that is). What Disney looks for is events that bring in lots of families- youth tournaments do that, not as much with adults. The rental fees aside, they want you to buy tickets to the theme parks. Seeing how much the guys around here complain about the costs of things as it is, I find it hard to believe that there'd be a lot of spending on $90 a day tickets for Disney World. Disney is 100% about making money. I'd be afraid of making it a one and done, so maybe that's something in the 5-10 year range.

I'm not saying that either of these should be out of the question, but there's a lot more to it than simply throwing down some rinks and going at it. I'm fine with the traditional inline facilities for now, so long as it sticks with the better ones.

Disney also charges a spectator fee to get in which is not cheap. Add that to the NCRHA fee and you are probably around $40 a day to just watch.

Somewhere around here there was something about Myrtle Beach?

Canada would be fun too, but I realize the logistics would never pan out.

Airtran flies into Fort Meyers, they are really cheap.

i think i made the comment about myrtle beach. they have an outdoor rink..haha. i was joking. its a nice facility and serves its purpose but i don't even know if you would want to host a tourney in south carolina...most people down here don't know what hockey is. they all thought vancouver was rioting over soccer hahaha.
