I know people are thinking why the summer and outdoors? First, the reason to play in the summer is because thats the offseason for hockey the playoffs are over, the Worlds are over and the only other sport going on is baseball. I say outdoors because it brings a nice appeal to the game the weather is most likely nice depending on the area and people would rather be outside on a nice summer day than inside a cold dark boring arena. Also, outdoor rinks are easier to find like in cities, so for example your walking the street of NYC and you see roller hockey going on with people in the crowds cheering and your hearing music playing the backround thats going to draw your attention from the street and maybe encourage you to ask someone when the next game is. Also, you would get the better players in the summer because all of the other 3 leagues are over as well as high school and college.
I think a summer outdoor league would really help this league tell me what you guys think.
I agree, I have always liked this idea. PBH had a good idea playing outdoors but i believe sticking to the accepted rules and format of Inline Hockey (with checking of course) is the best way to go to avoid being gimmicky. Also as you said playing in the summer allows you to get the best players since all of the other inline and ice leagues are in the off season and during the summer time people tend to enjoy being outdoors more. Give the games a festival atmosphere, live music, beer garden and put up temporary rinks and seats for 1,000-2,000 spectators in locations like beaches, downtowns or popular areas for night life and entertainment and i bet you will get a lot of interest and walk up crowds.

A traveling league, similar to AVP (pro beach volleyball) might do it. Set up on boardwalks on the west coast and the east coast. Have 2-3 teams that travel the whole summer together, and have 2-3 teams in each area that they play against. Basically put up your city's best against what they have to offer.

likes Beach Hockey... Beach Hockey at Newport Beach: California style on-the-beach hockey played every Saturday since '91. The old-timers mix it up regularly to help keep the spirit alive. What a great way to watch a hockey game. At the beach, eh?
