Second half of the season really picks up this weekend with all the florida teams playing it Ft. Myers and then pretty much everyone playing the week after in Lake Worth or Columbia.
Any thoughts on the second half of the season?

Beezeral, Im honestly not sure who will make it in. Its going to obviously be between You, us, FGCU, and Bethel. The next 2 FL weekends are HUGE for you both. I don't want to toot our own horn either. We have to play more consistently. We will have played 20 games. We are going to Chantilly to play some more ECRHA teams.
I will say this though, I think Bethel is REALLY hurting themselves with the competition they are going against. The Columbia tournament is a collection of all really weak teams. Trying to pad your stats with weak teams won't look good to the committee.
Sure, we went 1-3 in PA, but we hung with both DI teams we played, beat Slippery Rock, but Lost pretty badly to Pittsburgh. Most of that will look good.
you hit that on the head, if bethel ends up on the bottom of the top 4 teams they wont be looking too good with only a win against mason and maybe nc state on their resume. versus ecu who has gone to the ecrha, which is recognized as the top talent, and will be playing them again in the future. if you guys have a good showing at the box you should be able to feel confident with being selected. and yeah i know where your coming from with consistency haha... what happened against pitt? rough game :/

Thanks Cam. While I am not trying to make excuses for the Pitt game, it was our 3rd game of the day vs. their 2nd game (they only had 2 that day?). We didn't play as a team, and it didn't help that they had a kid that could snipe (elbow down twice and bar down once...how can you stop that?!?!). Oh well.
i think that these are gonna be the standings going into regionals:
1. Bethel
2. ECU
3. Florida Gulf Coast
4. Miami
5. Florida
6. South Carolina
7. James Madison
8. USF/FSU
bottom 4 teams don't even matter. it will be interesting to see who comes out alive out of florida. that area tends to shot each other in the foot. each team is real equal. the columbia tournament is super easy. bethel is the best team at it and then USC/FSU?!. Should be a stat-padding weekend for bethel.
First of all if the SECRHL continues the joke of giving the top 3 seeds to the division winners you are going to see a top 3 of
1. Bethel or ECU
2. Miami or FGCU
3. USC
Personally I think we finish above FGCU. We already beat them head to head and anyone can clearly see that we have not played to our potential at all this year. If we start playing to our potential we could finish the season as the 1 or 2 seed. If not we will need to win regionals to get selected for Nationals.
And Florida does not shoot itself in the foot. Because of the locations of the tournaments it is very difficult for the florida teams to play in Snellville, or Columbia more than once in the regular season and once for regionals. The state of florida is filled with solid teams from top to bottom. Outside of Bethel and ECU, both the Northern and Central conferences are jokes. Look at the schedule for Ft. Myers and Lake Worth, there are no easy games for anyone on the schedule. Thats why you see a bunch of teams with inflated point totals in the north

i didn't mean shoot itself in the foot in a bad way. i was getting at the fact that florida is way stronger than any other division. it sucks you all have to play each other and a lot of the teams in florida could beat one another on any given day. thats all i was saying. and i agree on the northern and central conferences being jokes compared to florida. so much talent in one area.
and the way they seed is stupid. one division at regionals is going to be really difficult: the #1 seed, #4 seed (a team that should have been ranked higher), #5 seed (same thing), #8 seed. that could be a potential bethel, ecu, fgcu pool.
I can already tell you guys that Bethel will most likely finish above us as they have 4 losses and a cake last tournament while we have 7 losses and a very difficult VA Interregional.
The seeds are crap, but what are you going to do? The only logical thing to do would to make a full season schedule where everyone plays everyone the same amount of times. But we all know that will never happen so we have to live with how it is....
Here's my rankings for the top teams in D2 in the SECRHL.
Ok here are my SECRHL D2 rankings
1. Bethel (7-4-1) - Has one of the best D2 goalies in MacPherson and three of the top forwards in Foote & Cole Stonstelie & Chris Roberts. FGC beat them with Mangold in net. Bethel has played a tough schedule so they should be ready for what it's like at Regionals when you have to play 4 tough games in a row. Beat GMU, NC State (without #12 Beason), and Miami (after Miami had a 4-0 lead) Should beat up on teams in Colombia to finish 11-4-1 and first place overall.
2. ECU (8-4) - Could beat Bethel. Has played a tough schedule, but they have a tendency to take too many penalties. Have to guard against a bad game 3rd game in one day like against Pitt where they simply didn't skate. Will Likely go no worse than 3-1 in Chantilly playing Binghampton & Shippensburg and 2 others to finish 11-5.
3. Miami (3-4-1) - Has played a tough schedule but similiar to Bethel and ECU. Should run the table in Lake Worth, and go 3-1 in Ft. Meyers losing to UCF but beating D1 Sam Houton State U, who will find out how bad the SCHL is when they get swept by Tampa, beaten by Miami, and UCF. (10-5-1)
4. FGCU (5-3) - Very good speedy young team, but lost to ECU and Miami, and beat Bethel by 1 without MacPherson in net. I think they are the 4th elite team in D2. Probably finish 4-4 to finish 9-7. Big games against Florida, FSU, USF, and UCF B (x2).
-Significant drop in talent here
5. Florida (5-3)- Haven't seen them, and I know USF will point out that they beat KSU D1 and Florida didn't, but if you look at other common opponents GCSU, KSU B, USC, Florida did better. Has a really tough schedule coming up. Could realistically go 2-6 by winning their next 2 games and lose their next 6 to finish 7-9.
6. JMU (5-2-1) - Only meaningful games were a blowout loss to ECU, Beat FSU by 4, VT by 3, and USC by 1. Should be the 2nd best team in Colombia other than Bethel. Might see tough teams in Chantilly VA in ECU, Binghampton, Shippensburg. will probably go 4-4 or better to finish the year out to finish 9-6-1. This is an above average team that benefits from a weak schedule and weak Colombia competition.
7. Virginia Tech (3-3-2)- Tied Florida State, but lost to JMU. Beat GCSU, GT, WCU... ho hum. Got beat by Miami 9-1 but kept the score close with GMU in a in state rivalry game 5-3. Will attend weaker Colombia weekend and tough Chantilly weekend. will probably finish 4-4 to finish 7-7-2.
8. Florida State- (3-3-2) Were smart to come up North in Apex, NC and avoid the Florida teams. Realistically this team goes 0-4 in Ft. Meyers vs Miami, FGCU, Florida, & UCF B. Team is probably 3rd or 4th best in Colombia, behind Bethel, JMU, and maybe VT. Optimistically could go 3-6 to finish 6-9-2. Needs some upsest in Ft. Meyers.
9. USF (4-3-1) - Haven't seen them, but they beat Beat FGCU, tied Kennesaw D1, but has lost to USC, KSU B. Has probably the hardest remaining schedule with Miami (x2), UCF B (x2), FGCU, Florida, UCF D1, Tampa. Could go 1-7 to finish 5-10-1 and miss regionals. Needs to steal a couple games including that Florida game to finish in the top 8 including the Central Conference Champ. Loss to USC as well as missing the first Snellville tournament hurt this team's playoff chances.
10. GCSU (4-7-1)- tied USC and beat GT, MTSU, KSU B, WCU. Someone has to win the Central conference, it's pretty much a coinflip between GCSU and USC. Hopefully they will play each other to decide it. They will be lucky to have the 3rd seed. Good young program completing it's 2nd year.
11. USC (4-6-2) - USC has played a tougher schedule than GCSU. They have vastly improved from last year, but I feel the fact that they made it to Regionals last year as maybe one of the weakest teams, will probably work against them this year and they will just miss out.
12.MTSU (3-8-1) lost to GCSU and beat GMU B, KSU B, and GT (forfeit). Tied USC.
13. GT (1-11) Beat WCU. Forfeited 4 games.
14. WCU (0-8) Miss Colosimo and more.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Regional playoff Standings (based on last year's model)
1. Bethel (11-4-1) North Conference Champions
2. Miami (10-5-1) South Conference Champions
3. Georgia College State University (currently 4-7-1) Central Conference Champion
4. ECU (11-5)
5. JMU (9-6-1)
6. FGCU (9-7)
7. Virginia Tech (7-7-2)
8. Florida (7-9)
---------------------
Outside looking in Florida State (6-9-2)
Possibly switch South Carolina (4-6_2) for GCSU (4-7-1)
Ironically, this format which Miami was vocal about saying hurt them last year, probably helps them this year.
Leaving the pools:
Pool A_____________Pool B
1. Bethel__________2. Miami
4. ECU ___________3. GCSU
6. FGCU __________5. JMU
8. Florida_________7. Virginia Tech

i hope my team ends up in pool b. hahaha.
It really does bother me that USC or GCSU will get in over a more deserving team like USF. And Mason you are right. The regional format did screw us last year. The fact that we played terrible that weekend nullifies the poor schedule in my opinion. we didnt deserve a bid to nationals and that is a fact.
If the seeds play out like this then if I were Bether, ECU, or FGCU, I would be pissed. any of those teams could go 1-2 in round robin play and end up the 6 or 7 seed while JMU goes 2-1 and ends up the 2 or 3 seed going into the single elimination round
it becomes the group of death like in the world cup.

Actually it might not be "that bad" as I believe A1 played B4, A2 played B3, A3 played B2, and A4 played B1
In that case almost all A teams would advance except who ever finished 4th would probably lose to Miami.
A1 Bethel would beat B4 GCSU / SCU
A2 ECU would beat B3 Virginia Tech
A3 FGCU would beat B2 JMU
A4 Florida loses to B1 Miami
At that point it would be Bethel vs. FGCU and ECU vs. Miami in the Final 4.
Lots of assumptions here but the "group of death" might be more interesting in that ECU, Bethel, and FGCU would get more familiar with one another before the Final 4. Could be really interesting.
