Thoughts on the tournament?
We are Looking forward to the challenge next weekend.
Should have some good tough games all weekend any predictions
That is weird, the FAU guys told me last week they were going to to this event next week.....
Should be interesting to see how good Affiliate Coastal Carolina is with their PIHA Goalie and PIHA captain.
I think it is smart on FSU's part to come up north and play teams they are competitive against (VT, ECU, JMU) vs. the really good Florida team
I think it's safe to say ECU (D2) has one of the toughest schedules given they play 3 D1 teams and FSU, none of the other D1 teams play 3 games against D1 teams![]()
Other than the 3 games when the D1 teams play one another, and all of the ECU games to see how they hang with D1 teams,
I'm looking forward to the following D2 games: Virginia Tech and FSU...
FSU and JMU
JMU and VT
FSU and ECU
BOLD PREDICTION: ECU's B team beats JMU D2
My bet is ECU requested to play NCSU...I assume they requested o play as many D1 teams as possible. Maybe they should re-evaluate and just move up to D1...maybe they can take FAU's spot. Last year the reason not to go D1 was no coach...they have a coach this year. And, appear to have what looks like would pass for...matching helmets/gloves. Which like the "having a coach" rule NEVER seems to be enforced.
My two guesses are
1 they are considering moving you guys up to D1 and want to see how you would do? Or gauge to see how the D1 teams do against you after your impressive wins over FGCU, and Bethel's scholarship players.
2 they figure you will see most of the same D2 and competitive teams (JMU, VT, CCU) in a month in Colombia or at The Box in February anyway. The only team you might not see again would have been FSU which is why they scheduled you against them. I would guess that you would have a fairly "easy" third tournament schedule, given who is attending SC and who you have left to play.
Sandman, you would be correct. We did ask to be scheduled with NCSU.
I don't think we will be asked to move up now as it really is too late. Plus, we really do not want to. We would like to be successful in DII before such a move is made.

GMU Should have a good weekend
ECU i think they will suprise some people even with playing 3 D1 schools
FSU looks like they have some new guys along with some guys returning that can play but first games of year
NC State is at home and will probally have agood crowd there to keep them pumped up
Kennasaw should have a good weekend
CCU new team but has alot of guys from up north so might turn some heads at first tournament
Great weekend everyone. Lots of good hockey. Every game played was very entertaining. I thought CCU came out and had one heck of a weekend. (this being their first). They hung with both KSU and NCSU. Our records for the weekend were great with DII going 2-2 and B going 3-0-1.
DII
vs. KSU- Loss 5-4
vs. NCSU Win 8-4
vs. FSU Win 7-3
vs. GMU loss 5-4
"B"
vs. JMU Win 13-4
vs. VT (Aff.) Win 10-2
vs. GMU Win 11-2
vs. JMU (DII) Tie 4-4

surprised that FSU went 1-3. looks to be a down year for them. also GMU struggling with VT is odd. seems they struggle with whoever their weakest oponent is each weekend
Yah we always seem to be close with whoever we play. Which makes all the games fun. When we start to pull away our top line plays a lot less which keeps games interesting (NCSU)/(ECU). I think that Mason can really beat or lose to anyone. As far as rankings for D1 i'd say its..
1. Tampa
2. GMU
3. NCSU
4. UCF
5. KSU
(FAU)
D11
1. ECU
2. Miami
3. Flordia gulf coast
4. Bethal
5 and down don't matter..
Whenever we play weaker teams our coach will pull up B players to play and unless we have a big lead and will sit our top line. hence why some of the weaker games are closer or why some teams are able to come back. just enough to win i guess ha. and i agree with the rankings. regionals is gonna be really interesting. nc state made a statement against mason and kennesaw but then lost to ecu. so really interesting...
