2010 Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships to be held in San Jose, CA

The National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association proudly announces the 12th Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships, to be held April 7-11, 2010 at Silver Creek Sportsplex in San Jose, CA. The event will bring 60 teams in 4 divisions (Division I, Division II, Junior College Division, and B Division) together to compete for the title of Collegiate Roller Hockey National Champion. The event will be hosted by the NCRHA, in conjunction with Silver Creek Sportsplex and Team San Jose.

Teams will represent each of the seven Member Organizations of the NCRHA. Each Member Organization will receive an automatic bid to place one team in each division. The rest of the field will be selected at-large from around the country by the NCRHA Selection Committee on “Selection Monday,” March 8, 2010.

The format for the event includes three round robin games for each team, followed by a single elimination bracket round leading up to the National Championship games. Division I and II games will begin on all three rinks at Silver Creek Sportsplex on Wednesday morning, April 7, while the Junior College and B Divisions will start on Thursday morning, April 8 or later. The Championship Games for all Divisions will take place mid-day on Sunday April 11. A complete listing of the colleges and universities that will be represented, round robin pools and the game schedule, will be available on the NCRHA website, www.NCRHA.org, in March 2010.

As the event nears, the NCRHA website will feature a dedicated section with event details. This will include block schedule, team invitations (bids), and travel information such as airport, hotel, rental car, local attractions, etc. The NCRHA and Team San Jose will be working together to bring over 2 dozen hotel options to the teams. Teams are advised not to book any hotels at this point, as all team hotel bookings must go through the hotel channel that will be posted.

Local businesses, hotels, attractions and shopping districts are eager to welcome the Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships. Team San Jose will have a booth set up at the event, with information on local attractions. For more information, visit http://www.sanjose.org.

The 2009 Collegiate Roller Hockey National Championships were held in Feasterville, PA, at The Sportsplex. University of Missouri – St. Louis (MO) dethroned Lindenwood University (MO), by a score of 5-3, claiming its first Division I title. Grand Valley State (MI) defeated Central Michigan (MI) for the Division II National Championship, by a score of 9-7. In the Junior College Division, Saddleback College (CA) claimed title by defeating St. Charles Community College (MO) by a score of 4-3, and Lindenwood University took home the B Division National Championship by defeating the Penn State’s B squad, by a score of 8-2. You can view the results from the 2009 Collegiate Roller Hockey National Championships, as well as 2004-2008 at www.NCRHA.org.

This will be the 12th consecutive year that college roller hockey will crown national champions, going back to 1999. It is the third time that they event has been held in California. In 2001, the event was held at the Wayne Gretzky Roller Hockey Center in Upland, CA and in 2004 the event was held at the Anaheim Hockey Club in Anaheim, CA.

The NCRHA is the nationally recognized governing body of collegiate level roller hockey in the United States. Organized into seven regions, over 190 teams represent 140 colleges and universities at the club sports level. The NCRHA is sanctioned by USA Hockey InLine, a program of USA Hockey, Inc.

The NCRHA would like to thank the following partners and sponsors for their continued support of this event and the growth of collegiate level roller hockey: USA Hockey InLine, Silver Creek Sportsplex, Team San Jose, Mission Hockey, Revision Hockey, Ace Jerseys, and Rocket Puck.

For more information, stay tuned to www.NCRHA.org throughout the season.

As someone who has been critical of the NCRHA for not getting the nationals site announced since now, let me be the first to say that the NCRHA made a great choice. I am from the east coast so this will be expensive but it's selfish to think that west coast teams should continue to come out to the midwest and east coast every year without getting to host nationals at least once. Silver Creek SportsPlex is an awesome and unique venue, and I had a ton of fun playing NARCh there two years ago. Can't wait for this April!

I do not know how college team work out their hotel and stuff but.....

I would suggest staying at the extended stay deluxe suites.... i stayed there with some guys when narch was held at the silver creek sportsplex... rooms were inexpensive because they do not use a maid service (I have not found a hockey player that wakes up early enough to use maid service anyway)... I think we only had to pay like $70 a night and the place had a king bed, sofa bed, and full kitchen.... it was a great set up for hockey players.

Flights are pretty expensive but the rink and area make the trip worth while.

The rink is definitely an upgrade from last year in Feasterville. I mean the site says it has locker rooms, already its 10 times better than feasterville.

I think it's a great facility, personally. It's nowhere near the city, or anything else for that matter, but as far as a facility goes, it's fantastic. Lots of seating, huge restaurant level with good food, good pro shop, lots of space for vendors and stuff to set up.

And not that I'm booking my flights now by any means, but I see a cross country round trip flight for that time from for $269 right now.

The choice to have Nationals in San Jose was a great one but I think it was done for the wrong year. NARCh is there this year so people from the East Coast who will be playing on the All Star team or any NARCh team will be traveling to San Jose twice this year. I doubt my team will be going to the NCRHA Nationals but it would be tough to do both.

When I played Narch there a few years ago I stayed at a hotel which was a mile away and it was connected to great Bar/Grill and it had a shuttle service to all local attractions making the rink one of them. This means no rental cars only a taxi to and from the airport which was not bad.

The hotel is the Holiday Inn San Jose-Silicon Valley. It is around $70 and you get a cleaning crew. Not trying to outdo the other person but this place was real solid and very convenient.

The only major drawback is they don't let you use the showers. Which is one of the dumbest things ever. That said, it's a great facility.

Great facility, great staff, and La Victoria downtown...the best burrito ever. This also means that our team must fly and not bus which is pretty sweet. Nice job Rob, Brennan, Nanette, and all the others with the NCRHA!

I didn't see that post as insinuating that nationals should be in the midwest or east coast.

It's been a long time since it's been out on the west coast, but Colorado isn't the midwest and it's been there twice since Anaheim in '04, which was the best nationals since the NCRHA has been in existence.

Here's to hoping that the same is true for San Jose. Can't wait to get to Cali!

Expedia. Leaving NY on Tuesday morning and coming back Sunday. Just over $300 with taxes.

it says 60 teams from all 4 divisions combined, so that means from last year it seems to expand by 12, what would the new teams per division be?

    last year it was d1=24, d2=16 B= 4 junior= 12 ... or something along them lines
