9 year old's amazing shootout goal

Check out this ridiculous move by a 9-year-old hockey player. Oliver Wahlstrom's shootout attempt in the Boston Bruins "TD Bank Mini 1-on-1" competition begins as expected: Deliberate skating to the puck before picking up speed into the zone. But once he gets between the faceoff circles ... well, let's just say it's hockey magic.

Wahlstrom, 9 years of age playing up with older competition, is with the Portland Junior Pirate Pee-Wee Major 97s, a team of 12-year-old players based in Maine. One look at this goal, and you can see why. It also doesn't hurt that his father, Joakim Wahlstrom, was a 10-year veteran of the Swedish Elite League.

Get ready for all the typical remarks about hot dogging, disrespecting the game, disrespecting the goalie, etc... You can see kids pulling these moves in probably any roller hockey rink, thanks to the internet and the popularity of guys like Itan. Theres a time and a place for it, so long as you're willing to look like a dork when it doesnt work! Its interesting to see it on the ice though, since it seems to me that often its alot of the ice guys seem to have a real negative bias towards this kind of stuff.

    yep.

I got a rink full of 'em five days a week. Let's see, pick up the puck, spin, fling it backhand, hopefully toward the goal. Frankly, if you've seen one of these, you've seen a bajillian of 'em, eh?

I remember the very first time I saw a pofessional soccer player walk up to a ball and just start juggling it. I was in awe...then I learned how to do it myself, and quickly the mistique, and the awe, left the building.

9 years old? I've got a posse of 6-7 year olds doing this nonsense. Okay, the first time you saw anybody of any age doing these "stick tricks," yeah, they look pretty snappy...but, really, aren't we done with all this by now?

haha...yea, as soon as those kids have had enough of it there will be another set that comes along. Thats the thing about kids, they love to try what looks cool, impossible, or dangerous. I suspect we were all the same when young...ya just need to learn when some stuff is appropriate, or not.
