nit pick: I'm pretty sure that picture was taken at FIRS, not IIHF.

Correct. The picture is of Thomas playing for the CI national team at the FIRS World Championships. In 2008 Thomas only played FIRS.

This year Thomas has been selected for both the IIHF team and the FIRS team.
