The NCRHA is putting this together as we speak. Emails were sent out to many NCRHA staff from the tournament. We are compiling those responses into a list for final verification/sign off from tournament directors.
Our goal was to have this complete by last Friday (4/17), but we have delayed this, in order to "get it right."
Please email me at [email protected] with any further questions.
Would a Lindenwood team or school rep please send an email to [email protected]. We have some questions regarding rosters/players to get engraved for the trophy.
Thank you,
Brennan Edwards
NCRHA Executive Director
The MVG award should without question go to Jimmy Steger. His stats at Nationals were 7-0, 1.43 GAA, .934 save percentage.
Earlier in the season, he had Lindenwood shut out through two periods. I can't find any evidence of that ever being done before.
He is a good tender but he also had stellar defense the whole tourney. And you of course are gonna say that. I think one of the best goalies if not the best in the country is rich latona from buffalo....kids dirty.
Although I have not seen either goalie play, I am sure they are both amazing. It must be really difficult for the committee to make decisions on this. Hopefully everyone will understand and respect the decisions, as I know years ago the message boards had a big issue with a few people who became upset over the selections.

from nationals, it was clear cut that steger and latona were the two best goalies at the tournament.
as far as latona being the best goalie in the nation? thats pretty tough to say...hes definitely one of the best for sure...
I of course am also gonna say that Latona lost in the semifinals, so it's pretty hard to justify naming him MVG of the tournament.
Steger stopped seven shots on one Lindenwood power play with the score tied 3-3 during the third period of the national championship game. That's tournament MVP-worthy stuff right there.
Wait.....I thought Matt Endom was the best goalie in the country!
I agree with UConn...it's clearly Latona and Steger.
Latona was phenomenal, but the fact that Steger won the head-to-head matchup and then was able to beat LU puts him over the top.
As far as tournament MVP goes, I don't think you can give the award to anyone but PJ Tallo. Andy Meade deserves it too (arguably just as much as PJ), but you just can't ignore the way Tallo put the team on his shoulders and took over the national championship game. It was his great penalty killing, the fact that he had points on all five goals, and the unbelievable plays he made on our third and fourth goals. Then he iced the puck off the faceoff at the end...and then scored the empty net goal.
PJ and Steger willed us to victory in that game (as Andy did in earlier games, particularly UCF and Buffalo). All three deserve first-team honors.
Adam Clarke probably deserves first-team mention too for getting launched into the boards from behind and drawing the five-minute major penalty.
Oh yeah, and Blake too.![]()
Did a lot of Lindenwood guys make the All Tournament teams when they won the past years? I am just wondering if anybody can come up with past winners.
latona was the best goalie i saw play this year...hands down.
the all tourny or all american stuff is always so late after the tourny, why can't this be done at the awards ceremony? i think that would lead to more teams sticking around and a little bit more excitement...but, then again i think playing music during games is a good idea too...so, what do i know?
not sure on the LU guys, but i would guess it all equaled out over all the teams. a one-sided team all american/tourny team is pretty close minded. i saw a lot of talent on teams that didn't win it all.
anyway, carry on...
everyone is definitely presenting valid arguments, and obviously lambert's gonna be a little biased.
its hard to compare latona and steger's performance because they played different teams. the 2-1 result gives steger a little bit of a advantage, but both goalies played extremely well that game, and to say that one was clearly better than the other, thats tough.
the x-factor in the decision is going to be the fact that steger beat lindenwood. to beat a team that won 6 straight championships, you need your goalie to stand on his head. steger did exactly that, and in my opinion was the main reason (there were many) that umsl pulled off the upset.
another thing that goes against latona (but it shouldnt) is the fact that they lost to lindenwood 9-7, so one would think, well, latona gave up nine goals, steger gave up three, clearly steger is better. that is a silly way to compare the two goalies, and anyone who was at the finals saw latona for the goalie he is, a big time goalie capable of getting far into the playoffs.
congrats to steger and umsl for their victory.
one thing that isn't mentioned is the team in front of the goalies. which team is deeper and stronger? i think they both are really good teams, but totally different skill set.
