Eligibility Question

I understand the "playing professional hockey nulls college eligibility" rule. But I think that if a player is SERIOUSLY attending school, and only played 5 games on an tryout contract in the CHL (which I consider barely professional), I think that there should be a little wiggle room in around that rule. Why could a player play in the now defunct IHA then play college, but a kid who made less money than those players can't play NCRHA because of "the professional competition rule"? It just seems like a double standard.

IHA was an actual Professional Inline League in California that was played at the Anaheim Convention Center.
