Can anyone shead some light on how USC and N.Colorado made the field of 16 for D-2. Neither one of these teams had significant wins during their season or playoffs. I can name 10 D-2 teams that would have been far better choices... Please, someone step up and make some sense of this tragedy... Gloveside..

Keep in mind that a representative from each NCRHA Member Organization votes the teams in.

Northern Colorado was the automatic bid from the RMCRHA.

USC was the WCRHL's 2nd rated team. UC San Diego was head and shoulders above the rest, and then there were 5 teams that beat each other all season. Other regions had similar situations, where their 2 through 5 or 3 through 6 teams were around .500 due to beating each other consistently.

The bottom line is that The NCRHA should want the 16 best teams representing D-2. I am loyal to The SECRHL, but I am very realistic that there are still 10 teams in D-2 that are more deserving. Gloveside... Also, thanks for the fast response... Good discussion!

That makes no sense Gloveside... UNC had to go, they beat Metro for the autobid in RMCRHA. And are you really going to tell me that with 6 teams, 5 of which beat up on each other out west, that the WCRHL didn't deserve more than one team? I think based on their performance against the other top teams in the SECRHL during the regionals that it is much easier to make a case against Kennesaw getting a bid than against USC.

Ultimately, until there is more cross-regional play between DII schools, we won't know the strength of the regions teams each year until they come to the National Championships.

Which is why we need a regional showdown at the start of the second semester. It is simple you take the two best teams from each region and get them together for one weekend at the start of the second semester. If either teams is unavailable offer it to the next in line and so forth. DI had a weekend over on the east where something similar was done. I know that this would be tough to get east and west to the same place but maybe have regions west of the great plains play and regions east of the great plains play. There will always be a more deserving team. People need to realize this.

UNC is a pretty good team and faired ok when they took a trip to the WCRHL even though they lost one of their best players to PIHA. They are a good team.

I do understand the auto-bid.. I guess what I would like to see is the best 16 teams. I do agree that more cross-regional play would take out any guess work.. I have watched Kennesaw and they are a very solid team.. No holes except lack of experience. Why is USC deserving? Gloveside

Honestly, I think the SECRHL lost a bid or two when Tampa came up to STL for that one weekend. They went 1-1-2, tying my team Washington (STL), who has a sub .500 record and losing to Truman 7-2. They did tie MSU which is a huge accomplishment. I'll admit that, but I still think that weekend didn't help the SECRHL in terms of getting additional bids. Just my opinion, though.

tampa going 1-1-2 in the great plains had nothing to do with the Southeast not getting a 4th bid. that region didnt deserve a 4th bid. The region that did deserve that 4th bid tho is the East. Brockport should have def. made nats, and they didnt, but in no way did the southeast lose a bid for that weekend, in fact people can argue that the southeast only deserved 2 bids not 3

The problem with interregional events is that they're just not affordable/realistic for most guys that are in college, especially those who work through college.

There has been an open event at the start of the second semester for the past 3 years now, in Key West. Every team is welcome and invited to go. Don't blame the league that teams aren't showing up. They have made it very easy to get in and have made it a good destination for teams.

Unfortunately, teh reason why a lot teams chose not to go to Key West is the facility is something people do not want to play at. Bring the tournament north a little to Palm Beach or Deerfield; you will be 10 minutes from the ocean and will have nice facilities.

Having played in two Key West tourneys, the rink is absolutely terrible and you have to adjust your play drastically. But I must say they were possibly the two best times I have ever had... I recommend every team go. It would be even more fun if more than 4 teams decided to show up.

I was thinking about taking my team down there, but I was told it was more of a vacation and hockey came as a second or thid priority so we went to the Southeast instead. If it was all about hockey, or even just played on a real rink, we probably would have went. We can go on spring break vacation on spring break, but when we travel for hockey we want hockey to be the priority.
