    Mid Season Thoughts

We are about half through the first AIHL season for most teams. What are everyones thoughts so far on the league? Competition? Organization?

Since the board is VERY quiet lately... I'll give my 2 cents.

So far I'm pretty impressed with the league. The games have all been played so far, which is very impressive with a new league. No forfeits that I know about. Teams are showing up with full minor and elite teams which is very good to see.

The competition is very tight in the Mid-Atlantic, which could not be more fun for the fans/players.

Most teams are well organized as well. Playing at Hartford and NJ Nightmare were both pleasures as they make sure that everything is taken care of.

I think there is a few inconsistencies with the scheduling, but i know our division wanted interdivision games. And it is fun to play the northeast teams, so i can't complain too much. It's just hard when southampton gets to play virginia 4 times and the nightmare has to play the boston teams. But I understand it, needed to get everything set up real quick. Hopefully next season divisions will play the same teams.

Now there is the website. Very nice... couldn't ask for anymore really. Maybe if teams could upload some video of highlights from games. That's one of the only improvements I could see.

    let's hear some other thoughts

I hear the guys who do the radio show are totally HOT !!

One I heard was the Big Man on Campus when he was in high school.

Seriously though, I think people are working really hard to make the AIHL work. There is alot going on behind the scenes that goes unnoticed for the most part. It is by no means perfect, but so far I like what is happening.

    Great topic!

id like to hear thoughts on allstar game for elite/minors.....

The meetings in Vegas were excellent. I have to say that the owners and the league are on the same page for the issues.

Thanks for the kind words Katinsky on the Hartford game day presentation.
We have even more stuff in the works.

We are looking into doing a video interview session with players/coaches in a format kind of like the WWF used to have with the 'Piper pit'.

as a team we love doing the game radio broadcasts and hope that teams will get onboard inthe future. the cost is only a couple hundred bucks are our guys and fans love it.

PLay-wise I think the competition is getting better and better. The officiating is still different regionally. for instance, long island area games are more physical and officials only give one assist per goal while other east coast games are more tightly called as far as stick and body penalties and have up to two assists per goal. All of this has been discussed and will be improved.

I think that the New England division playoff race will come down to the last weekend of the season.

I think the league is doing a great job. Everythign is running smoothly in the south east. It sucks that we had to start our season so late, we have only played 4 games, but that is mostly a lack of organization on our part and some rink issues that occured this season.

Of the four games we have played so far they have all been competitive and exciting. We are slowly getting our fan base to build and the more physical play occuring this season has certainly helped that.

I know all of the guys are excited to play our first weekend event on the 14th. This event should finally let us know where we stand in our division.

The radio show and website are both amazing. The hard work on those has certainly paid off.I also think it would be great if we could upload video of the games. We record most of our games and get clips on youtube but it would be great to have them on the AIHL website.

I have the highlights from game 1 of the inferno vs crusaders match up on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRMpJh4Khew
By the way i hate the music on this video youtube blocked the song that i choose to use so i was stuck with this.

Hopefully the AIHL can keep up the great work.

I believe this year is going quite well on and off the rink.

The only 2 complaints I have are:
    1. The teams don't get the stats up online quick enough. In my opinion it should be uploaded onto the website the day after the game takes place. just a thought.
    2. I would like to see some video highlights on the website, but I know not every team is recording their games.

Other than those 2 I think this season is in perfect shape. The radio shows are great and I think that is proof on how far this sport has come.

I guess since Billy brought it up I'll chime in. If there were a couple things that I could change, one would be I like to see the schedule closer together, it seems like its really spread apart. The second thing that I learned was there could be Ties, thats not good for anyone, players or fans, thats a rule I like to see changed. As for us playing down South, I was told they asked all the teams in our Division and our owner volunteered. Any thoughts on a overtime format?

Ties will be brought up at the owners meetings at the finals and I am sure a vote will incur a change.

Billy regarding us going south it worked out that 3 teams in the mid atlantic had to go north and 3 had to go south. We were told we were going there it was not our choice. Which by the way so you know added a sh^t load of travel for us. Stop beating a dead horse by trying to say we have an easier schedule.

We will see you guys in April and we can talk about how southampton got a cake schedule when we are out on the floor.

I guess the Phantoms and the Inferno did not get this cake schedule eventhought they play the same teams.

first off, i wasn't calling the teams out... it is a league issue. and the title of the post is mid season thoughts... not southampton cyclone thoughts. i used your team as an example saying that in the future that divisions should play each other as a whole.

a bit defensive are we? and i never said it was a cake walk and that you didnt have to spend money. in fact, i could care a less who you play. i was pointing out a league issue. thanks for your 2 cents though

My bad Billy for jumping on you. I just now went back and read the post from December in another thread and forgot it was Beauchamp complaining then. I thought it was you bringing it up again.

What I will say in response to what I bolded above:

If it is a league issue why do you care. If your owner had a problem with it he would have brought it up. I have talked to Tro at least 10 times since we were in Richmond. Never once did he complain about it.

This will be the last that I discuss this or anything with you.

Lastly save the chatter and do your talking on the scoreboard in April.

    Sorry

I never even said it was a problem. We, meaning myself and wolves, do not care. We want to travel whereever we can to play. Which is why we play tournaments as well. It's a league issue for sure. I was giving my thoughts on the league, as others have so far as well. To be honest i would rather play Boston every season anyways. I was making a scheduling point to keep all teams happy, that everyone is on a level playing field.

And if you recall i was the first one to respond back in november saying i was not surprised that you guys took points from the pittsburg teams. No one is saying you guys are not a good team, which for some reason you are making this out to be like that.
