    Looking for a new Helmet

I am in need of a new helmet. I am debating between an Easton Stealth S17, Reebok 8K, or Mission Intake. What are your guys opinion? They all seem pretty comparable but i'm looking for the best combo of protection and weight as well as comfort. Looks aren't Too important but feel free to add them into your review.

I use an RBK 8K helmet and it is light, comfortable, and has good protection. I got mine about a year and a half ago, so the recall did not affect it

that warranty stuff is old and kind of dumb. It just meant that the snap on the chin strap would break after a little while. they've since made them stronger....

Anyway I had an black RBK 8K and loved it, comfortable, light and looked good.

I now also have a red RBK, but it is a 6k...and there is no difference between the 2 except about $50 and some stupid adjustable strap in the back that hardly did anything.

So, I'd suggest the RBK 6k....only $85, Light, Comfortable, Safe (im guessing) and it looks the best IMO.

If you are looking for Protection...The Bauer 9500 is the Best helmet you can buy. It's also comfortable, and it looks good. It's not Cheap though. But much cheaper than a hospital trip.

doesn't giving your hair a liberal application of hairspray/lacquer give you about the same if not more protection as those?

Clevername: are you able to try them on somewhere? My favourite is the bauer HH3000 series, small, looks good and does the job. I found many later helmets feel HUGE, like i'm an astronaut or something.

yes. The closest hockey store to my house is about 30 miles and they have the Stealth, Reebok and Mission. They did not have the 9500 but did have the 5500. I can always order it they said but i of course would wan't to try it on. And i agree with you, a lot of the newer helmets, because i have a skinny face, make me look like Eric Staal minus the skill set.

Edit - anyone know the major difference between the Stealth S9 and S17? Is it just the padding inside?

The Bauer 9500 does come in solid colors, I know in white and in black for sure. I'd shy away from the 5500, but the 8500 is not bad. No matter what helmet you get, you should get the newer style black padding instead of the older style solid white padding.

    HAHAHA nice!

And yes, you're probably right. But, luckily, I only play in rec ball leagues on skates AND I haven't fallen at all in over 3 months. Progress is progress!

It's the "helmet du jour" for us old dekhockey players.

My fav is the mission intake. However, I got a cascade a couple months ago and I am really starting to like it.

It depends on budget first and foremost. On most online sites, you can find the best models from last year or the year before for about 40-50% off. If money is no issue, then go with this year's model - I bought a Reebok 6k with mask earlier this year for about $90 - the large is pretty big - so if it's for a kid or an avg size adult head, go with a medium. It's very light and comfortable. I also just bought my son a CCM 852 for about $40 - not as fancy - and I don't think he's as comfortable. He had a Bauer before that which he outgrew - but it had the 2 - layer foam that made for a better and more comfortable fit. Bottom line - if you can find a top of the line lid (those are usually the ones with the 2 layer foam) for a good price - go with it.

If your looking for Safety...The Bauer 9500 is the BEST Helmet you can buy. The last I checked they were running around $189 w/ a cage.

I've heard the Cascade (no.2 rating) has a blind spot w/ a cage.

The s9 has a traditional look ,slim fit. MY favorite helmet. I had the mission(uncomfortable and big lookin) the reebok (i just didnt like it ,sweat always found its way into my eyes ???) The easton s9 is by far my favorite helmet ever. It saved my melon many times in some pretty heafty collisions.
