Re: D1 Collegiate Rankings - December 9th
That is understood, we are attempting to get individuals from all around the United States, and hopefully, as in all other polls, we will have the people be objective when ranking teams that are not within their region or territory. Anyway you slice it, there is always going to be some objectivity, all we can hope for it that we get the right people involved that want to be as objective as possible.
They have the same thing in every other human poll, how is the guy from the New York Times going to properly evaluate the talent that University of Hawaii football team has? He probably won't be able to just from watching games, so they talk to other people, do some quick research and then make a educated decision.
We want to make this as actual poll not just a regional ranking system.
Thanks for the post though, it is a question that probably would of come out later.

Re: D1 Collegiate Rankings - December 9th
So, are you guys only doing a top 10 now? I thought I saw a longer ranking that was up previously that had at least top 25 on there. Just curious. Maybe I'm confusing this one with another of the rankings though, ha.

Re: D1 Collegiate Rankings - December 9th
Thanks for your concerns with how we do our rankings it means that you truly care about the sport. I will personally make sure that the people that we choose to rank the teams (currently 45 applications in less than 24 hours) have a general idea of where the teams stand after each weekend with up to date scores for them. We will also have our network in place to be able to speak with each other across the country.
If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]

Re: D1 Collegiate Rankings - December 9th
I think these rankings are as good as it can get. Even the BCS with a much more complex formula can get it wrong, and people will always argue the results. For example, Using the BCS formula is a TCU team from the Mountain West division really better than Texas Tech from the dominate big 12, probablly not. And you cant even get started on the Texas, Oklahoma head to head argument. My point is any ranking done by a formula will be viewed as incorrect and have flaws, and anything done by voters will be viewed as biased or miss informed. These Collegiate roller hockey polls luckily have nothing to do with seedings or championships, the BCS is not so lucky. That being said i think they are a great and harmless idea, and this is one of the first of its kind and is a great start.

Re: D1 Collegiate Rankings - December 9th
It's not that difficult to be informed here, the roller hockey community is not large and if you haven't noticed yet the college game doesn't change that much. It's not that hard to make educated decisions. Everyone knows that Lindenwood and UMSL are above everyone else, that the Southwest is weak because their representative at nationals never wins a game, that the Rocky Mountain is not that much stronger, that there's 2-3 schools from Michigan & Florida that are good every year, that the West and East are always strong with a handful of teams...
I mean if you went to nationals last year you've seen many of these teams play, there is roster turnover sure but it's not a clean slate each year. Even if you're new to NCRHA but you've just played NARCh/State Wars then you've seen many of the top players in NCRHA and you recognize names and can pretty easily deduce who is the cream of the crop and who is not. Perfectly unbiased and informed? Of course not, but it's not that difficult to have an idea what you're talking about. The 50 person rankings committee will be more accurate than any mathematical formula used so far.

Re: D1 Collegiate Rankings - December 9th
Alex is right on there,
LU
Mich State
Florida
Central FL
UMSL
Long Beach
Irvine
ASU
UNLV
Buffalo
Rutgers
..and there you go
Not in that specific order but thoes teams will be there in the end, elite 8 for sure.
I think this year the powerhouse league with the most talent is easily the west coast, for the past couple years its been the East (some may argue) but its good to see a new team in ASU come out and be strong right off the bat, congrats.
