    favorite pucks?

i've primarily used the IDS "pro shot" pucks when i've played over the years. anything else i didn't really take note to. but i was wondering if there are other pucks that are better. for instance i see that the PIHA has started using the "Rocket Puck." i don't recall ever using one but they might be worth taking a look. i've searched the internet for different pucks and practice pucks but haven't really tried any yet. figured i'd ask around first

The rocket pucks aren't bad. They are pretty quick in my experience. There are also the Mylec pucks, not sure of the official name. Those are the only pucks I have used recently.

we recently changed from the IDS to rocket pucks and have been happy with them so far. they seem to bounce a little less in my opinion. as soon as the IDS pucks cracked a little they seemed to bounce like crazy

I think the floor that you play on also has a big impact. Sport court, ice court, etc.

I have also noticed that Rocket pucks seem to curve a little more when you shoot them. Not on the close up snipes, but long shots...dumping the puck in, whatever...

the rocket pucks are okay... I think the ids pucks are quicker though. The rocket puck rolls and gets on edge a lot, but the ids puck will bounce once it cracks. It's really tough to pick which is better imo

mach 1? really? cause there are several of those pucks in the bag for pick-up games here, and they're never used. i personally felt it was a little light, or when i shot a slapshot it seemed like it rose off the ground too fast. and who has heard of or played with smellie pucks?

I had a smelly puck! I bought it probably about 10 years ago at a tournament. Amazingly, the scent is still as strong as ever (fruit punch maybe?). I had passed around with it a few times but that was it. Still have it in it's original plastic baggy somewhere.. Don't recall how it actually performed.

I like the Rocket Puck for the most part. It can eb hard to settle down once it starts bouncing.

I think the pro-shot puck is money well spent. It is fast, like the rocket puck but it is way more durable. The rocket pucks seem to break much easier when a hard slap shot hits the post.

definitely the IDS puck, and either the mach1 or the Jofa back-in-the-day (though they cracked horribly, and got 'sloppy' and squishy really quickly)

Other pucks they always seem to create with a lot of hoopla and 'oh this feels like an ice puck', and they're heavier, but they always just feel slow and squashy, where an ice puck feels snappy because it can slide so much better.

Have to go with the Mach-1....or the IDS Pro Shot...but if you're really nostalgic, there's always the three roll ball pucks that Fulton Reed used to use.

TRADITIONALLY THE IDS IS MY FAVORITE.

OMRHA introduced a new sonic puck last year, officially adopted by IIHF, and it is very comparable to the IDS playability with a bit of less rolling but also a little slower flat slide. Over all a good substitute though.
