Fire Ants Roster...

Whats up with the Ants roster? Out of 19 players total on there roster 10 are listed on both line ups... What is the AIHL rule for this? If this is a "typo" my apologies in advance!

I know that they are still moving a lot of people around from what i understand, but i cant answer one way another. Zuba posts here alot im sure he can answer your questions tho.

I know the rule in PIHA used to be that 8 players had to only play Pro. The rest of the players can play both. But when playoffs come they have to choose. So I believe the rules are the same for AIHL, but do not know for sure. But I know the roster is not final. Like Newell said we are still trying to see where people are playing.

why would it be any different than PIHA. Aihl has every other by-law from the PIHA rule book. Surprised if every thing isn't just <copy><paste>. Some new league. And it's funny how it always ends up being "it's just a like the PIHA"

So here we go with the PIHA and AIHL debate again. Really get over it the AIHL is here and teams are playing in it. Best of luck to PIHA and the teams and I hope they have a successful season. I never said that they took the PIHA rule on this. I just meant it will probably be similar. Lets just stop the debate and just play hockey. It will not do the sport any good if the comments start being posted on IHC. It is not fair to both the PIHA and the AIHL and to Richard of IHC, that players make bad comments either way on IHC. I am sure that heads of PIHA and AIHL are ready for the 2008-2009 seasons and do not want the bad press to begin.

How am I debating anything? I commented on your post so how is that bashing, debating, or in anyway comparing the two? Just curious. I merely stated the obvious. That when referencing any type of rule it's always a "well back in the PIHA......so it's going to be same here in the AIHL. See when you come back with " So here we go with the PIHA and AIHL debate again. " that's were the trouble always get stirred up. How I am debating anything!!!

I just felt like it was a bad comment about the AIHL, by stating some new league. If that is not what you intended then I apologize. But this is how the debates get started. The thread was about the Fire Ant roster not about if the AIHL cut and pasted the rules.

The rule, as voted on by the league, is as follows according to my email from the league.

8 major players must and 2 goalies must be declared on the roster before game one. After 10 games, the major roster is declared. Any ahtlete that competes in 20 games at the major level CANNOT play for the minors.

Player movement is restricted to 3 players and 1 goalie.

The PIHA rules are as follows(at least prior to this season):
6 players and 1 goalie franchised and can only play pro
every game DAY 2 players can play both.
players can only play in one level of playoffs

i apologize if the rule has changed for this year.

The AIHL rules as I have been told are:
8 players and two goalies can only play Elite.
each game DAY 3 players and 1 goalie can play both.
once a player has played 20 games at the Elite level they can no longer play minors

I feel like this is the better set of rules bc it makes every team keep two lines of ELITES only but also gives more flexibility in case of short benches, etc. and lets teams evolve as the season progresses.

Coach Joe decides on the final rosters but in the interest of time our webguy placed most players on both for now so that the league could move forward with the site.

FireAnt Jim Miller is the AIHL New England commissioner, hed let our coach know if things arent ok.

There seems to be alot of sour grapes out there over the FireAnts roster. I was going to see if Coach could post it but there is no need.

More effort should be put into making your teams and your games better than complaining how one team seems to be getting it right.

Everyone laughed at us the first season.

We will continue to get better. More players and better players will continue to play for the Ants every season because Coach and our team does it right and by the rules on a great rink facility. Something must be going right in Hartford as the player fees go up every year yet we get more interest?

Is it just not fun anymore when you teams out there cannot come in and walk all over us?

My final comment on this is if you are upset that the FireAnts are getting better, go get better yourself instead of crying about it and trying to smear the good name of the FireAnts.

Matt, I most certainly agree with you.

You guys seem to be doing everything right...bringing your best pro players to make the minor team that much better is exactly how this league, or anything other league we have played in is supposed to be run.

No, what you are doing is taking a rule that is there, in my opinion, mainly for special circumstances when a full squad can't show up, and taking advantage of it to a degree where it just doesn't look good. Much like the Grizzles of two years ago, who won the minor division with their pro team, you feel the need to go out and prove to the world that your pro players can beat minors. Congrats man...too bad your team isn't even the best in your own building.
