that loop on the thumb of a glove

What is that loop on the thumb of a hockey glove for? The one on the inside of the thumb, where your finger print would be.

Why is that loop there?

Just asked my 13 year old son. If he's right, it's so you can easily hang them up and air them out.

It isn't for hanging up ... I think that's an additional benefit you have discovered.

The loop is so you can get a better hold on the stick with your thumb, i.e. it moves forward, but the main padding of the thumb is not required to move.

In the newer style gloves they have thumbs that flex a bit and the loop doesn't need to move as far.
