    The perfect Roller/Inline hockey puck?

Just wanted to put up a thread about pucks used in today's leagues and tourney's. Which pucks do you think is the best and what is needed to improve these pucks if needed to make them perfect?

I honestly like the IDS puck the best, but i think it could be a bit heavier.

I miss the pucks the NCRHA used before they switched to the IDS puck. What were they called again?

For some reason I can't link to the thready, but do a search. There's a similar thread, but 4 years old. You can get some ideas from then at least.

Although i liked the jofa's back in the day, I think the IDS is much nicer to use - it stays flat a lot and slides a lot better than the jofa IMO.

IDS, Jofa, Rocket, Mach 1.....all pucks that are decent to use. Some are better on certain surfaces than other.

My biggest issue with inline pucks is......they cost too much $$$! Running a league, buying 500 pucks a year, it ultimately comes down to where can I get a good deal.

Teams are the same way....too often do we see a team warming up with 6 pucks because they can only afford to buy a few pucks each season. Yet we can watch an ice hockey team warming up with 30 pucks and they've spent $25.00.

If someone could come out with a puck that retails for $2.00-$2.50....now that would be good.

I agree with you, the price for inline pucks are just outrageous!! If you think about it, its just a piece of plastic. I guess people will always keep buying, since you can't play without them right?

It is easy to see why inline pucks are more expensive than ice pucks, as the manufacturing process will have more stages, plastic Vs rubber, plastic pegs drilled/inserted.... but that much more expensive?

Over here it is around $8-9 per puck (£4-5), as most importers of hockey kit translate the $ price straight into pounds, to cover the middle men and tax man along the way.

For my money the "Pro Shot" is the best puck, I think that is the IDS one. I think it runs better, doesn't hop as much, can be saucered better and feels heavier on the blade compared to the others.

i personally do like the old school Jofa and CCM pucks. However, they are considered lead weights compared to most pucks used today. My league uses ISD pucks also, however, I still have a bag of red Jofa and CCM pucks that i practice with.

I just found the jofas 'sat up' too much, and they felt like they had a bit of 'squish' in them, unlike the IDS.

lol, mylecs bring back memories, our first couple of seasons we played with them because roller rink owners were convinced that a puck would damage the rink.

Thanks for the link ... I'll find out if they ship to the UK as that is £2.50 a puck. Are these the one's used at Narch? Some guys from my team played in LI and said the pucks were OK.

Mach 1, and they were 100 trillion times better. The IDS pucks are too expensive, too hard to find, bounce too much, roll too much, and the pegs fall out and the pucks break. Basically, the best strategy in any game played with an IDS puck is to pressure the living hell out of defensemen on the forecheck because it takes an extra split second to get the damn thing to stop bouncing around and settle down.

If your league uses the IDS puck and you're practicing with ANYTHING else, you're at a major disadvantage, because they are different.

(And they are easy to "doctor." Not that I think anyone's ever done it, but it could easily be done.)

The Rocket Puck is the best puck ever made... nothing comes close

Re: The perfect Roller/Inline hockey puck?

As a goalie I hate facing rocket pucks. They must be about 2 oz. Guys roof them on the goal line and they go off equipment like a rubber ball on a trampoline.

IDS is the best right now for players and goalies but that isn't saying much.
