Who is the player of the year? presented by YouSuck Ref.com

Since my posting for the 2008 All Americans there has been a ton of discussion about who the best player in the country is. Here are the criteria I think you should consider (for this year and their college team only).

    1. Performance on the floor this year.
    2. Who did the most to help his team.
    3. Leadership of his team.

Middleton and Tamburino. Middleton tore it up in the west no problem and is evident to being considered unstoppable like crosby. and age isn't stopping him a bit for tamburino, when most are settling with their life he is still running the rink.
the other guys have great accomplishments too, but these two stand out the most in my book.

Tallo had four goals and four assists in four games against Lindenwood, and put up seven points in UMSL's game against Truman State (the #3 DII team in the country). Nobody else has put up those kind of numbers against that kind of competition.

In the GPCIHL championship game against Lindenwood, Tallo led the team in shots on goal and blocked shots, was awesome on the penalty kill, won every faceoff he took, and scored the game-winning goal. UMSL was up by one with about three minutes left, and pretty much getting worked over, but then Aaron Schulz flipped a loose puck up the middle, and PJ burned into the open floor, took it all the way, and scored on the backhand, with a guy diving at his feet, to give UMSL a 5-3 lead.

In the last thirty seconds of a penalty kill early in the third, with UMSL up 3-2, PJ won two faceoffs, blocked two shots, and as the penalty expired, drew a tripping call that led to UMSL's next goal.

PJ set up Aaron Schulz's goal that gave UMSL a 2-1 lead in the final minute of the first by taking the puck end-to-end and forcing an offensive-zone faceoff (after UMSL had been getting pressured hard in the defensive zone and looked like they were about to give up a goal), then firing the shot off the draw that produced the rebound that Schulz scored on.

Cash, Clarke, Propp, and Meade were all awesome, but without PJ, there's absolutely no question that we'd have lost.

Thumbs up Re: Who is the player of the year? presented by YouSuck Ref.com

BLowe-I think he's just stating his case for "PJ's" the best, not bragging, just his opinon

I personally know a few of these guys listed and alot of the guys still playing in the Great Plains.

I think as a whole region its full of top guys and I wouldn't make a claim that any is the "best"

As an overall choice, considering; value to team, work ethic, skill, and attitude.

The top 5 in my opinion would be(no order):
    Adam Clarke-UMSL
    Jeff Hill-LU
    Jimmy Dougherty-Truman
    Gus Maloney-SCC
    Tom Bruce-LU

LU, UMSL, SCC, Truman, and the other top school in the GP region all have their top 3 or 4 guys. Yes LU has depth but not as much as the past and for any of thoes teams to loose anyone not just their number "one" guy would hurt.

I would never say that without "so and so" they would of lost because without any one of their "top" guys they would of also lost, its a team game. Key guys help but don't win games by themselves.

*Just my comments on the GP region, not saying its the best region just the only one I've followed*

Ryan Cowdell has been the best player on the rink the few times i have watched Towson this year and would be my player of the year for DI in the ECRHA with Tyler Wasler also getting serious consideration.

He pretty much went out and won the Semi-Final game versus Rhode Island.

    28 - Games
    54 - Goals
    38 - Assists
    92 - Points

Ryan Cowdell couldn't hold a candle to Tyler Walser. Everytime Walser has the puck, you have to be aware of his shot and every other player on his team. Cowdell has a tremendous shot, but that's about where the comparisons between he and Walser stop.

    a) I don't talk about myself much at all.
    b) Of course I'm going to talk about my team. What's wrong with stating your case? At least I can be civil about it...

(And I figured people might find it interesting, in a game where the #1 team in the country lost for the first time in four seasons, that an 18-year-old freshman made the biggest difference.)

PS - UMSL-Lindenwood extended highlights are now up on YouTube, so you can judge for yourself. (My little "clock" is screwed up on the third period reel; I'm going to fix it and re-upload tonight.)

Maloney definitely deserves All-America consideration. He might be DIII, but he led the GPCIHL in goals playing against all the DI teams. He'd be a deserving Great Plains all-division MVP.

I'm fairly positive we wouldn't have won without Tallo.

I don't think we would've won without Cash, Clarke, Meade, Propp, or Schulz either.

If Maloney "definitely deserves All-America consideration. He might be DIII, but he led the GPCIHL in goals playing against all the DI teams. He'd be a deserving Great Plains all-division MVP".
Then this should also be true for Yokubison in the MCRHL, who also played DIII but lead the MCRHL in total points and goals playing against all the DI teams.

    Yokubison-MVP Of the MCRHL

    There he's included.

P.S. if you really are his dad, I'm pretty sure you're embarrassing the hell out of him.
