    playoff format

thinking about genes post about the stingers got me thinking about our current playoff format. as of right now the playoffs are top 4 or top 3 from your divsion depending on the amount of teams you have. but if you play in say the northeast divsion or the gateway you have a tough road ahead as compared to other divsions. I am not trying to bash other teams ect just thought that maybe some thought about a new format for the future seasons should be considered. in theory you might see the 2 best teams in all of piha playing eachother in the second round of the playoffs with 2 or 3 rounds left to make it to the championship the way the league is growing.

It almost sounds like you are bashing some of the other divisions in PIHA, especially the South East division.

    Just my opinion...

i wasn't really talking about a particular team, divsion, or even season because teams talent levels change year to year if the the best teams in all of piha played in the southeast next year do u think it would be fair they have to play eachother in the early rounds of the playoffs?

I'll agree with you in some cases, but i'm sure it is structured in a way that teams can play each other without having to travel a significant distance. What kind of playoff system would you prefer, a BCS style system where we use the ranking from yousuckref.com.

Aren't the PIHA playoffs set up to diminish the amount of travel necessary during the playoffs?

    Re: playoff format

I think each division winner gets a bye and ranked 1-6. Then the next teams based on points get into the playoffs (like the NHL).

This would prevent teams with a .500 or better record NOT gettting into the playoffs and teams less then .500 getting in depending on their division.

Or maybe there should be a limit to the total number of teams in certain divisions.

    Re: playoff format

THe playoff structure is set up like this:

    Divisional Playoffs:

In divisions of 6 teams: Top 4 teams make playoffs.
In divisions of 5 or less: Top 3 teams make playoffs.

Playoffs are like this: 1v4 and 2v3
    or: 1 bye and 2v3

All series are best of 3 played at higher seeds rink.
    No more mini games!!!

    Conference Semi-Finals and Confence Finals

    Teams seeded by record 1-4
    Pre-detrmined Nuetral Location

    1v4 and 2v3
    Best of Five

    Finals - Two remaining teams
    Best of Five

    PIHA Championship
Location - We think its Buffalo at TORHS Nationals
    Best of 7
