Sad Songs that Make You Happy

Hey Folks,

This hit me tonight. I've loved a certain song for many years, and if you listen to the words, it's a very sad song... but at the same time, it's exhilarating, because someone else has experienced things you've lived, and can also write about it in a song.

I've always felt that popular music beats writing and music (separately) hands down, because it combines the two. Sure, there are incredible writers like Nabokov, Steinbeck, Vonnegut, on and on; and musicians like (pick a favorite), but could they write a pop song's lyrics AND the music -- and make you believe it at the same time?

I'm looking for a song that says "Haha, X got fat and is dating an ex con" Anyone hear something like that one? Let me know.
