Thumbs up The Perfect Inline Hockey Association

When I posted my question about the Olympics I never thought what would happen, and so much was written. Now that gave me the idea for this thread.

In your opinion, if there was the chance to create an association from scratch, in which molds you guys think it would work better? In terms of people it should have from president to clubs, organs, branches, whatever you wanna call it and to which federation (FIRS or IIHF) you´d connect it to. How many championships and tournaments it should organize and look after. I dunno, the works.

Take the crayon and a blank piece of paper and be creative

Any organisation has the capability to be above par/perfect, or whatever. As long as the owners and league admins, have the game and the players interest at heart it will be open and flexible, with ideas coming from both the top down and bottom up, and the tracks for each equaly greased. As for how to split profits and what not thats why colleges are hookn up thesse scholarships so some of the kids that getem, can hopefuly use that knowledge for the benifet of fellow players, and the sport at large.

You think it should also take care of the junior leagues ? Or only focus on senior squads?

Actually, I was thinking about your positive (?) and thought-provoking supposition/question and believe me, I think that there's definitely room, as well as a serious need and obviously a ripe and ready opportunity to actually outline an alternative international IGB/NGB network/structure --

I also thought of some management, membership and marketing ideas that would also encompass and encourage game-growing ideas/parameters that would address most all of what presently leaves obviously too much room for the almost endemic corruption, cronyism, "feather-bedding" and unaccountability that permeates most sports IGB/NGB's, as well as the basic and all-too-obvious problem of not enough "bang-for-the-(member's)-buck" in terms of actual game-enhancing benefits secured that go directly towards the enjoyment/realization of the membership and sponsors, especially as to the game's full potential, competion, development, marketing, media and broadcast-wise --

And really, I'd very much enjoy telling and outlining more, but I don't think that I really want to endure the inevitable onslaught of ignorant, small-minded and idiotic "shinny-slings-and-arrows" of a good portion of the remedially-minded "rubes" that would invariably start with their imbeclic-and-immaturely-imbued accusations of my so-called "meglomania" and "ego", so I'll take a pass on this one -- as much as it's indeed an interesting and thought-provoking 'thread' truly worthy of intelligent, thoughtful, creative and even puck-passionate discourse, dicussion and debate (ultimately, "n1devil", I really don't want to have either Mike Burke or Richard Graham have to give the "stop feeding the trolls" cyber-flyer because of anything that I might've dared to hypothetically suggest, outline or opine)...

Re: The Perfect Inline Hockey Association

Do not pass this one, this is an important issue, cause it can actually help out a lot. Due to constant errors of unexperienced federations on the subject of inline hockey we (as in Portugal) have bled a lot. Too much. So the teams are joining to form up a brand new association. I´m the spokesman on my team´s side, so I can have a say on this creation. I have lots of ideas, and with all your arguments here at the forum, I thought about dropping this thread on your backyard and hope you guys help me out here. The ideas I´ve heard and read here in Portugal are lousy to say the least. Very poor and obviously every guy, or almost, has his personal agenda instead of hockey development.
So what you guys think we should take care of, keep in mind, guarantee from the get go... what have all the years of competition and trial/error can you pass in terms of knowledge? I´m not sayin the "board" will ever listen to me, but with a little help from you guys, the sure as hell should. I´m not making a cent nor do I want to. I´ve already won national championships and worn the national team jersey, so my dream is to see inline hockey prosper here and one day be able to say I did more than just play the game and watch my kids roll out with no s***... just be able to play and enjoy the game.So like I said, imagine you can form up the perfect association
.What would it be like in your opinion?

Re: The Perfect Inline Hockey Association

wow, pretty big topic to tackle.

My personal preference is for an inline hockey only international federation with members being each country's NGB for inline hockey. The makeup of NGBs would need to be tweaked country by country, in a country like Australia it made sense for us to have an NGB with member State associations, each State association had member Clubs, each member Club had Players. You'd probably need to prune that tree of the 'state' level in some countries.

So each level association would have an executive committee of President, Treasurer, Secretary, etc + Member reps. That way if the level below has no idea of what is going on, the person to talk to is the rep for that member level e.g. If a Club doesn't know what State has said, talk to the Club rep to State committee.

I find the model where the people from the level below aren't represented at the level above can get a bit dictatorial, and leads to major problems in information flow, Since there isn't really anyone who from the level below involved in the process of governing who has the task of pushing the information out, and/or pushing their members concerns/point of view.

On the elite side of things I think better processes can be made for selecting national teams, I'm not a fan of simply having selecters at tournaments because it only lets you see a players ability in terms of the role the coach has given them in that team, and how the coach plays them. A pool of unbiased selectors would be nice - though they're as rare as hens teeth.

A bit of a mixed bag, but I think the key is letting inline hockey determining inline hockey - and not get stuck where every little thing is a political point of differentiation between IIHF and FIRS inline hockey e.g. goal sizes and game misconduct penalties under FIRS rules.

Thanks 4 the backup Kittenkrusher, that´s the real point here. The idea is to gather your experience in benefit of our own inline hockey on this side of the world. Not to start any wars on who knows more. As I see it, any and every point you guys refer, can and most certainly will be extremely helpful. So thanks for your words so far, guys.
