Lindenwood University

Hey guys,

Right now I'm a senior in highschool, and I absolutely love inline hockey. Recently I've been thinking about going to Lindenwood (their hockey program says it all) but I've also been wondering about their school as far as academics go. Anyone have anything to say? I'm looking for everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks everyone! If it helps, I'm a very mathematical/ science driven student and am also looking at engineering. Love to hear your opinions.

Although I'm sure this is going to turn into a problem thread, the only thing I will say about it is that they do not seem to offer an engineering program at all, and their only accredited program is in teacher education.

I believe that ABET is the accredidation group for engineering schools. I would suggest taking a look at their site http://www.abet.org/ and going through the list of schools, and then maybe matching them up to which schools have roller hockey, and picking a school based off of that.

As great as Lindenwood is at hockey, it's important to realize that after you graduate, you're going to need to go out into the real world, and having a degree from someplace that might not be well respected in a certain industry (not to say it wouldn't be well respected in other industries) could be problematic later on in life. My way of thinking is family first, school second, everything else (including hockey) a distant third.

There's plenty of quality teams up there. Rhode Island made it to the championship game last year against Lindenwood. RIT played a tight 6-3 game against Lindenwood the round before. Stony Brook win the DII national championship, and has since moved up to DI. Take a look, and you'll find a few more good ones out there all over the country.

A well thought-out response AJ. I don't know anything about Lindenwood's academics, but I am sure you will be able to find a solid engineering program along with a strong roller hockey program. Most teams will have contact information on the NCRHA website so you will be able to talk to team captains/coaches.

Leave it to AJ to start off a thread that I thought would be WWIII with a great response.

I'd be happy to discuss the academics and roller hockey program at my school and any others I know of. There are a ton of schools with incredibly good engineering and science programs that also have great roller hockey programs as well.

If you are considering St. Louis, also take a look at UMSL (www.umsl.edu). They have a joint engineering program and their roller hockey team is really stepping it up a notch.

Looks like this may turn into a recruiting thread. While Lindenwood is the Gold Standard in college rollerhockey excellence, I don't know enough about the school's academics to comment. I do know plenty about Drexel since I studied there (graphic design), played there for 4 years and have coached there for 5 years. Here is some information on Drexel from the Drexel website:
