Bad Experience with Tour

A while ago I got a pair to Tour Patriot skates and loved them. So when it was time for new skates I bought the E2's. The first time I laced them up the top eyelet ripped up and out of the skate. Tour was nice enough to warrenty the skates and send me new ones. I was told a week for the whole process of shipping the skates to them and them sending me new ones. So today, a MONTH AND HALF later I got my new skates. The geniuses at Tour put the chassis from the ones I bought onto a new boot. They put them on too far towards the back of the skate so the 2nd wheel isnt in the cavity to allow the bigger wheels up front for the flat chassis which they are so proud of. Well that second wheel is up against the boot and doesnt spin. So I give the nice people at Tour another call and they said "we already warrentied the skates, theres nothing we can do." Nothing can they do for their screw up?????? So now I have to take the skates and get the chassis moved to the proper place which will cost me another $50. Well the next pair of skates I buy will be Missions.

Mission is no better. I had a pair of Missions that were $700 about 5 years ago, and within a month, every axel was stripped on the chasis, the wheels all broke, and all the eyelits up from the 5th was ripped out. I sent them into mission, and they told me a week...3 months later I still didnt' have them, and they had no record. So I had to buy new skates. All of a sudden, a year or so later, they showed up at my house. Original boot, with a chasis that was spread to far open on the back two wheels, so you couldn't even use them. The chasis was also the same chasis that they used on the $100 skates. So, remember that too. Pick the best of the worst

Yeah I guess, the only time I had to warrenty anything with Mission was a pair of chassis that broke. Without me sending anything back to them I had new chassis in 4 days....I guess its all just dumb luck. It just aggrevates me that everytime I called Tour I got the same answer: "One week." That ended up being right, last Friday....

These are great skates. Two months into using them the lining is coming apart. Who in their right mind designs a hockey skate with glue holding the different layers of the the liners together. Great job Tour. Oh and since I work at a hockey shop I got to try on the new line of Missions when the rep came threw....very comfortable skates.

you will have problems with any of the big names. look at the NBH ice range that fell apart when it got water in it....

wow this thread scares me cuz im in the market for a new pair of skates and you guys have complained about all the major brands LOL.

its ok. Mission was whacked anyways 5 yrs ago. Now there like the best skates. I bought the cheap DSX skates and there flawless. And ive noticed a HUGE difference in Mission from the yrs. I had a pair (about 5 yrs ago) that the chassis were just plain horrible. Now ive owned 2 and there stronger than ever.

Im highly sticking w/ Mission w/ skates right now.

I've found that the higher line of skate you purchase, the more room there is to go wrong. The more fancy design and **** they put on there, the more will go wrong with time.

I have had the tour fish bones for I don't know how long........the tongue fell off, the eyelets tore, the carbon fiber cracked......but you know what, you just have to find a boot that feels good and go from there.

I used mission exclusively for 6 or 7 years.
the older models (protos, vsi's) held up well under 5 to 10 hours a week on the rink....the newer ones not so much and less so each year.

the HE 10000's were great skates. my next pair was the wicked ones and they cut my feet up and I felt like i wasted alot of money to not be able to get a skate to break in.

I switched to baurer ice boots with chasis put on them and they were the most durable skates but performance a little low.

im wearing tours now (code ones, 8.8s and now the Q's) best performance out of any skate Ive worn but they fall apart incredibly quickly - no durability

you breathe on them and the boot gets deformed and the skates literally disintegrate. FYI if you play more than once a week DO NOT BAKE YOUR TOUR SKATES!



I will say that Mission is very good about their warranties.

it is one year for any reason with a receipt, they replace the whole pair of skates with brand new ones. I have done this a few times. If an eyelet breaks within a year thats not wear and tear that is design....

Tour I have not had much luck with....it takes a while to get the skates back and they do not replace...they attempt to repair...I have had the same awful situation with my chasis...they put them on off center..


bottom line, to get skates that weight less, you have to use less and different materials....basically every year of skate designs are an experiment to see what really works....eventually there is a point where a decrease in weight is 'out weighed' by the huge drop in durability.

Ive never had a problem with tour skates.. Maybe its the bender tying his skates, and not the company making them?

I dont work in a proshop or any hockey store and I fixed my ripped out eyelet myself.. You must be a great asset to your hockey shop if you can't even replace an eyelet.

that's one interesting opinion...

i've only used tour skates since in the past 10 years for roller hockey and can say that they break down incredibily quick, eyelets pop out, tounges come off, stiffness of the boot disappears... however... they do perform the best... while i have tried to skate in others... mission, rbk, and bauer ice boots... they just don't have the same thing tour does...

hopefully they can find a way to make a skate last a year... i'm going through 2 pairs a year right now.

i used to hate missions. i tried the old ccm externos, they were ok but broke down fast. the bottom of the boot came apart. so then i tried the rbk pumps. although i never heat fitted them, they werent that comfortable anyways. so they just sit in the garage. then i bought the mission wicked 1s. they are by far the best skates i've ever had. everyone says they're extremely uncomfortable. but i just sat on my couch one day with my heat gun while watching tv, and got them just right.

i dont lace my skates all they way up because i cant stand not having ankle movement. which some people tell me is weird or bad, but it's just comfortable. so maybe that's why i like them? but they do have the usual inline skate problems. the front of the boot is almost worn through so that my toes are showing haha. but i just shave it down and put a new plastic piece on the front. it's not that hard. as for the eyelits, i dont think i've ever had a hockey skate, ice or inline, that the eyelits lasted more than 4 months before coming off. i think it's the wax laces that kill them.

but i cant stand tour's all 80mm chassis design. i feel it restricts my turning, because i played with my friend's beemers once and wasnt impressed. and rbk's 72, 68, 80, 72mm design is just stupid. like they're trying to be different. or mocking the old easton f1's "big wheel" design. (those skates were a mistake). i feel at home with the high-low chassis.

my biggest problem is finding the right wheels. i'm right around 200lb and cant use the really soft wheels because of how hard i skate, but it feels like the harder wheels, like 78a or 80a, just slide when they lose that glaze they first have when they're new. and dont get me started on rink rat wheels, i blew 6 out of the 8 not even a month after buying them. i dont know what their deal is but everyone i talk to is unimpressed. so far revisions have been the best for the buck for me

I know you are probobly sick in the mens league you play in on weekdays when your old lady lets you out of the house, but to smash someone on their opinion on a product, because your screen name "represents" them is just tacky. For the record, i bought tour cobalt q's 3 months ago, best skate i have ever worn, BUT.....THEY ARE ALREADY FALLING APART. I beg to differ. I see a lot of people in Cobalt Qs who skate with their ankles scraping the tiles. Might I add, Narch Pro is a pretty good men's league. Where do you play? Also, When did putting the name of a company in your screen-name become tacky? and how? Guess I should've reconsidered when I put AandF in my AOL IM name when I was 13. How tacky.

BTW, you must be some sort of rinkrat if you have no issues with your stride, but your skates are falling apart after you got them in August. At some point, you have to realize that you can't blame the skates. I know kids that got them at the last winternationals, who have just switched to a new pair. What could be the issue here?
