unless you play for Team USA your not going to get a scholarship. Most schools have inline team but only two or three offer scolarships.

Well, he didn't say anything about scholarships in his questions... depending on the level that you play at now, you may be able to play at a big school. Note, however, that unlike NCAA sports, the 'big' schools (Penn State, for example) don't always have the best teams. In your region, there are a lot of big schools with quality programs, like Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, and a few others. Outside of that area, there are a lot of smaller schools you may not have heard of before, such as Lindenwood, Hofstra, and Long Beach State to name a few, that also have quality programs. The key is really looking into where you want to go to school (far from home, within a few hours, or in your own backyard), what type of major you are looking for (turf sciences, marine biology, ancient Egyptian algebra), what size school you want (50,000 people or 5,000 people, or somewhere between those), and if you are willing to sacrafice some or all of that for a high quality hockey program versus just a good quality program.

To answer your question tho, as of now, teams don't have 'scouts' per se. If you are going to be playing at a tournament somewhere, post on these boards, and maybe a coach or players from a certain team will be there and be able to talk to you about their school and college hockey in general. There are college roller hockey players all over this country, so you're bound to run into someone at one of these tournament series, and most love to brag about their team. Throw some more details out there about yourself, like what teams you play for, where you have played, and what you have coming up, and there's a chance that people may have seen you already.

Penn State played in the DI National Championship three years ago and was a perennial contender for years. It's unfair to use their program as an example just because they've had a couple of down years. When you lose that much talent in one year (Brunk, Hahey, Winstead, McCormick), it's tough to replace it.

That being said, I'd bet $100 that they could beat your Hofstra team right now.

I said they don't ALWAYS. They are having a bad year right now, that was kinda the point. I never said they didn't have a good team. If it makes you feel better, I will name some other big schools that are had bad seasons as well.

    That being said, http://www.ecrha.net/game.php?game_id=66935

That was this season. -Mosenson. And not to really rub it in, but I scored in that game. Anyone who's seen me play knows that that is a semi-annual activity, at best.

Thank you for giving me the time to plug one of the top educational institutions in the nation, the Pennsylvania State University. Penn State has stringent academic standards and a very organized, dedicated roller hockey program. If you want information on Penn State, please contact me at [email protected].

You posted a 5-3 victory from the pre-season weekend as evidence that you could beat Penn State. What you don't realize is that you played our B team and didn't beat them until about 2 and a half minutes left. And to really rub it in, we had our C goalie playing in his first ever non intramural roller hockey game. I bet you were aware of that, however.

Despite this uniformed individual telling everyone that we had a bad season, we did tie the Divison 1 regional champion RIT 3-3 this season, and beat the Division 1 runner-up Buffalo 6-4. We beat 5 of the 8 teams who went to D1 regionals, tied another, lost twice to Towson and never faced Rhode Island. We also had a 9-3 win over Nassau who had previously beaten Towson. Thank you for allowing me to use your uninformed information as a way to promote my school and team.

When an interested high school player comes on these boards looking for information, I'd say it's best not to turn it into a "who is better than who" argument. When some people point to these boards as being a poor reflection of the league, this is what they're talking about. If you want to have this debate, I'm all for it, but I'd say take it somewhere else and stay on topic by giving this guy some information.

If you're interested in Drexel University and you're looking for information on our club, you can contact our club president, Justin, at [email protected] or myself, [email protected], and we'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have.

    Re: Scouts

Being in Michigan, you should go check out a couple events next season and check out some of the big-time schools there. Also, keep in mind many of these big time schools don't just have a team they have a solid program. Most of them have B teams, and some programs have two B teams. For example, Penn State has a B team. However, Hofstra's program has two B teams. I am sure you will find that team captains, officers, and coaches will all be more than happy to talk to you about their programs.

Don't forget to keep academics in mind also. Find some schools that have roller hockey and will suite your likings and needs beyond playing.

What you didn't know was that I poisoned both drinks. I have slowly built up an immunity to the poison over the past ten years!

Based on the club-sport nature of college roller hockey, there are not teams of scouts watching high-school and younger tourney division games and players. If you'd like to gauge your talent against that of the big schools, the best option is to come out to a few games. Local games have wrapped for this season as nationals are upcoming.
Most teams in college roller hockey rise and fall year to year in terms of talent. Only the most organized teams (usually from bigger schools) consistently compete at the highest levels. MSU and UofM have been well organized clubs since the begining of organized college roller hockey. These guys are from various parts of Michigan (and elsewhere). If you contact either of these schools (or EMU or WMU) via www.ncrha.org, they can put you in contact with guys in your area. They usually play during the summer in local leagues, narch, tour, yada yada...and you can get a good look at them or even skate with them. When I was at MSU, we had pre-season skates that we would invite players to join us even if they weren't eligible to play that season.

Keep in mind that most of these organizations have A and B teams so there are several levels of skill.

The scariest part of all of this is that there are kids born in 1991 looking at colleges. I think Burke was looking at colleges IN 1991.

It would not turn into a "who is better than whoM" argument if we could leave specific schools out of our descriptions of the league. I also take exception to someone saying "the 'big' schools (Penn State, for example) don't always have the best teams." I suppose just stating "the big schools don't always have the best teams" would not have sufficed.
