Top Defensemen Determined by points???

I never could understand why the top defensemen are always decided by points..what happened to good old defense. Being able to break up a 2-1 or 3-1 blocking shots, being a solid penalty killer, covering the guy in front of the net, knowing where to go in order to give your partner an outlet pass, being able to not just stop a forward making a move but being able to turn the play around the other way....I just dont think that defensemen are noticed for defense it is more about how many points they have and that is not what a solid defenseman is there for. Offense is offense and Defense is Defense players on offense score goals and make pretty plays, a solid defenseman stops the other teams chances and saves goals not about how many goals and assists they have and that always determines things such as all star games or Top Defenseman awards. So my question is who are the teams best "D" in the league not most offensive "D"????????

My team has Mike Keating, who is almost impossible to beat one on one, and is a terrific penalty killer. We also have J.D. Davidson, who is as smooth as butter with the puck, and is a fantastic playmaker.

i think the reason might have something to do with the fact that it is more necessary for defensemen to be offensively skilled in inline hockey than in ice hockey... being able to shut people down is still important but in inline it's equally important to be able to move the puck and play with speed... if you have 2 defensive defenseman out there then you wont get much done 4 on 4...

You're absolutely right, Snake. It is vital that a defenseman has the ability to read the offensive situations as they unfold, so he can jump into passing lanes.

i would have to say Ray Katinksy is up there and also Eli Napolitano for the Grizzlies he is tough to get around also Def mike Keating very strong one on one.

Maybe thats the reason we cant score goals, Eli is listed and plays forward.

all good names so far. I have to nominate Eddie Baron of the Minutemen. He is so good at controlling the game and it is very rare that someone gets by him. He is a great player that I enjoy coaching.

Definetley Eddie Baron is my top pick . . . doesn't matter what kind of game your involved in, that kid has the most poise and patience I have ever seen. Never makes a stupid pass and is always in the right spot. I'll give my nod to Scott Miller as well, I hate playing against him, he's an excellent stand up defenseman who is tough to beat.

yeah im going to have to give the nod to ray katinsky (im biased i know) and eddie baron, i could count the number of times i have seen them get beat one on one is the past 5 years on one hand, have'nt seen the other divisions, but in the NE i pick these two so far from the teams ive played

scott miller of the tics and eric keene of the bandits come to mind as some of the best "defensive" defensemen i've seen...

and i'm not sure what you'd call him but one on one i don't think you can find your way around nate sharff with a map and a compass... he's a little offensive minded but with his size, reach, skating and wrist shot, he's as good as there is on defense period...

matt matincheck is tough to beat one on one as well as biff and holly. eddie b. and ray katinsky are very good defensive defensemen also. i think dave columbo is about as underrated as they come in this category too.
