    MLRH Weekend Update

I'm trying to limit my activity on the board as to avoid any posts like my last ones... But i had to break from my self-imposed suspension to report to everyone why MLRH is for real... direct quote...

"Major League Roller Hockey is ?Major League? because its teams only play in large markets with only one team per state or major market. Teams often fly to games, but when a major snowstorm shuts down the entire northeast, things can go badly..."

I thought being "Major League" would imply that you had some form of organization, the league was competitive and well-respected, and players actually wanted to play for the teams. I know i'm beating a dead horse but i honestly feel bad about the money that is being lost on this league and that could be going to benefit PIHA. Flying players to games? How could anyone afford that?

Wow... that's a pretty funny quote.

I'd like to see a tournament organized between PIHA teams and MLRH teams. I know it would probably never happen, but I think that would be pretty interesting.

the MLRH is a joke, and any team that plays in it would not be able to compete in PIHA. I would like to see the Philadelphia Sting take on the Growl in a city matchup.

I think if any MLRH teams joined PIHA they would all probably fight to stay out of last place.

I realize that I'll get harassed for this one... but let me remind you all about our boys to the north in Connecticut and Mass that brought teams from the MLRH to the PIHA. I'd say their doing Just fine in the PIHA. I'm not defending MLRH, just pointing the obvious out. Some teams will be able to adapt... some teams won't stand a chance. Just my opinion.

most of the league at one point played in MLRH... MLRH had some good seasons, i think that the influx of talent from MLRH to PIHA is over though, sure there will be good/great players that come over in the future, but not whole teams like bos and con was able to do.

Have you even seen a game this season? There are two or three very good teams that could do more than just compete in PIHA.
I've watched PIHA games this season and was not impressed especially for all the talk.

There are some great players and great teams in PIHA but you cannot dismiss every single player in another league with such a great level of ignorance.

Also, your Growl Sting match-up is funny. One of the best teams in PIHA against one of the worst teams in the MLRH? That would be like putting the Crush or Wings vs. York, Richmond, or Feasterville this season.

I don't understand why there needs to be so much childish trash talk. Just play your game and let everyone else play theirs.

at least from me, it is not "childish trash talk." i think that quote is pretty obviously trying to take a shot at PIHA when it says it only has one team per major market whereas PIHA has multiple teams in most every market. but really you miss the point. the point is that in order for our game to grow and succeed there cannot be leagues working against each other. until there is only one top league, and for that matter, one top governing body, the sport of inline hockey will never reach its potential.

we're all probably curious, what piha teams did you watch that you were not impressed with?

I don't think I've missed the point at all I think you have probably missed mine. You didn't see me argue anything you said in your initial post. I agree with most of it to be honest.

My whole point is just that many things I have read, such as the things said by whodere, are really not necessary; it's just flame-bait with not much real backing or reason. It doesn't make the game any stronger by back and forth talking about how everyone is a joke, bad, can't play the game, etc.

The last two PIHA games I saw were a Feasterville\Robins match up.

    Re: MLRH Weekend Update

And now I put in my 2 cents... don't compare apples and oranges. You play a PIHA style game between York/Feasterville and Crush/Wings... it won't even be a contest in the PIHA team's favor. You play an MLRH style, it could be a very different story because of size and the way these teams were raised playing puck... however, we may very well cause the upset because of that.

"There are some great players and great teams in PIHA but you cannot dismiss every single player in another league with such a great level of ignorance."

No one was discrediting Everyone in MLRH... we were stating that a good portion of players/teams wouldn't be able to compete at the Pro PIHA level. The many phenominal players that transfered over from MLRH to PIHA left very few in their wake. Not to say there Are Not good players in MLRH, but the number of them has greatly diminished.

And so mr Zephyer, so you know that I am not talking out of ignorance...

    Re: MLRH Weekend Update

the connecticut and boston teams in PIHA were also among the top teams every season in the mlrh the past 4 or 5 years, so obviously the game would transfer.

from a personal standpoint, while the mlrh had a couple great seasons several years ago, last year was a complete joke, with multilple forfeits for varying reasons and a season that was ended early and game results simulated for playoff standings.

I know that it hurt 'professional' inline hockey as rink owners now being asked to open their doors to PIHA teams remember the nights where mlrh games were canceled due to forfeits and no shows.....

until there is one 'pro' league let them be different. mlrh is for those who want to play checking, Piha is not. so choose your leauge.

as frank-frank said, totally different styles of play.
it has been argued to exhaustion on this board the fact that few in the mlrh know how to hit cleanly and i think that is a major reason why the talent has left the MLRH.

I'm not comparing apples and oranges. Hockey is Hockey. If guys can't play both sides of the game then they are lacking in skill sets. I'm not really here to discuss that matter though. The Crush and Wings play a physical game but would be able to play a low contact game, especially from what I have seen this year from both leauges.
It doesn't really matter though because it won't happen unless one of those teams move to PIHA. I doubt people will be organizing friendly scrimmages.

No one was discrediting Everyone in MLRH...

I've seen a lot of comments geared in that manner. ...And saying a league is a joke is discrediting the people that play in it. Anyway, I appreciate your information but have to disagree just a bit.

    Edit:
    Just wanted to mention:

Probably not the best topic to post on as my first few here.

The whole point of my inital post was just to say that I don't think any of the bad talk is necessary and that there are still good teams that can compete. I don't think it's justified to just say a team has no chance in a game against another.

When I said I wasn't impressed by the teams I saw last I was just saying that they weren't better than anything I've seen elsewhere. I don't want anyone to think I'm trashing their team.
They put on a good game. I just expected to see the NHL on Court from everything I've read about how the teams are so much more skilled than the MLRH teams.

I do want to say that I was actually really impressed by the Minor league team. There are some skilled players and they played a fast game.

    Re: MLRH Weekend Update

zephyr - is there rosters for the teams posted somewhere? I'am trying to find out more about the league, but the MLRH website just doesn't have much on it. Also I heard that many of the teams do not exist that group of players are thrown together each weekend to play.
