New Goalie Skates

For any of you goalies that use the Bauer 1000's like myself and have been for a few years now you deff. might want to consider upgrading to the Bauer XG Light Vapors.

I just got mine in the mail today and was able to use them for the first time tonight. I must say that they are about 1lb lighter then the 1000's and on top of that they form to your foot a lot better making you feel a lot more in controll with your movements in net.

Usually I don't play well with new equipment especially skates but taking them right out of the box and putting them on for the first time in a game they were fantastic. I played a solid game and we won in OT 3-2.

So I highly recomend these skates especially for the price that they are selling them at. If you need any more info about them you can contact me and I'll be glad to send you more info.

I just ordered mine yesterday(tuesday) Garret but i havent been able to see or try them so i ordered blind. Im a little more relieved to hear this about them. Should see mine friday so looking forward to it.

yeah I did the same thing although I tried the vapor iceskates at the local ice rink to see what size I should get at least. I wear a size 12 shoe but was a size 10 1/2 in the skate.

Tell me what ya think you should really like them a lot. Hope they do well for you as they did for me. Take care and good luck to ya this season

I have played with the xg lites for a couple of weeks. I highly recommend them to any goalie. just change the wheels, and they're the best things since sliced bread!

They did seem really nice - unfortunately I set up a pair of Grafs for myself last year and dropped a LOT of money since I hated the 1000s so much.

I went a little to the extreme on mine. I saw the Bauer XG Lite's, but I noticed that they are the low end Vaper boot for Ice. I ending up buying the Bauer XXX Goalie Skate and hacking the blade off and attaching my old chasis from my 1000's. It cost a good penny, but the boot is amazing. In and out so quick I nearly break my ankles. The boot is much stiffer than the XG and the entire skate comes in at about 20% lighter than the XG inline boot. If you got $ 520 to blow and willing to rip up the warranty, then I would suggest this route.

I will say it was about time that bauer nixed the 1000 boot, it would last only 8 minutes on the court before wearing down. The new boots, XG (inline), XV, XIV, and XXX, will hopefully have better wear poperties than that of its predecessor. So far, it has outperformed their past models.

I would have done the same thing but like you said it costs a lot of money. If you do have it do the XXX Vapors. I tried them on in a store and they are a lot more comfortable then even the new XG Lights. Wish I had the money to do that instead.

However the XG's are 10x better then the 1000's and I love them. Hope the XXX Vapors do well for ya. How is the break in for them? Did you bake them at all? I'm thinking about doing that with mine but not sure.

The break in is still going, but they are good right out of the box. I did bake them, but with goalie skates, I really don't think it helps much.

One thing I noticed is that my heel slips up and down. I tried all the sizes on, and it still does it, usually that is a fit problem, but I have no clue.

Does you heel slip up and down out of yours?

Also, I have attached a brass clip to the tip of the toe in order to attached a tie wrap to the toe of the pad. It gives you "total" control of your pads without any laces to trip over or sloppyness of the pads. "Total Control!".

what, no love for the 1000's sure they are heavy... but they are built like tanks... and if you dont mind being slower, and building leg muscles due to wearing ankle weights go with my route and stick to the 1000's .... just unfortunate that there are no better wheels for these things...... fyi, this post was only .44444999999999 sarcastic

yeah your right the 1000's were great for leg mussles. But once these things came out I figured 4 years with the 1000's was long enough. I could still use them they are in great shape so I might consider selling them.

If your looking for wheels for the 1000's check out the rink rat crossfire wheels or it might be the cross over not sure but they are about a year old and I have been told they are awsome. Just make sure if you do try them that you get 49mm wheels. Hope you get a lot more use out of the 1000's.
