Thread: Why did Lindenwood and Merimac create extra teams?

Why did Lindenwood and Meramec create extra teams?

Just wondering why Lindenwood would ruin their good name by creating a below par "B" team (Black)... Did they just do it for more funding or what? It seems like its all the players that couldnt make any of their other teams so they just made up another team? Doesnt sound logical. Same goes with Meramec, but they didnt have as good of a name, but still? Whats the deal and im not trying to bash anyone.

Well i dont know what merimac is, but Meramec Gold is just a team of guys that are good friends and wanted to play for fun while Lindenwood built a freshman team. I may be wrong about LU, so correct me if you can.

As in my previous post you can tell I'm for sure no fan of LU but I dont think they did anything to ruin their name by creating a second "B" team.
By them creating another team all that does is draw more players into both their school and their system which gives them more to draw from later on down the road and brings more money into the school. So in no way are they ruining their name by creating a sub par "B" team.

Now Meramec on the other hand I believe is a different story, they seem to be 3 different teams under one schools name (all their B teams). None of which are very good and if they had done it right could of merged all their teams and created a strong "B" team insted of having 3 average teams. Dont have a problem with it at all and again dont know how it would ruin their name I think thats just stupid to say so. all it does really is bring more money into the league which is never a bad thing, Yay for LU and Meramec I hope to see more "B" teams next year.

So I take it the B teams for meramec created themselves and I was talking about LU ruining their names.

I dont play for the organization nor do I know anything about them (Meramec). I do know that the organization is ran pretty lose and is given none if very little funds from their school so they basically just use the school for its name and thats their only tie to the school.

What makes you think creating an extra "B" team will ruin their name, I'm just cursious not trying to be ignorant.

Honestly the Meramec gold team has the best players. They were just a bunch of guys who didnt go to tryouts but they just wanted to play together, They're all friends.

I think it would ruin LU name just because everyone knows of LU being the best team out there almost never losing a game. If you look at the LU (Black) record its not that good.

Our second B team is not ruining any "name of excellence". It gives the chance to more students to get involved and be a part of a collegiate sport. Our black team gives 12-14 kids a chance to play hockey. when they grow up and have kids, chances are they may have their kids lacing up the skates. its about growing the sport, and getting more people involved. the more that are involved, the more mainstream it becomes, and i think everyone knows what comes after that. I think that most schools should have as many teams as necessary (but within reason) to keep people playing the sport..and not to mention (for all you hapless saps who complain about institution funding), the larger your club, the more $$$$ that come your way. In our case, its not about money, because we'll get what we need and more anyway. Its about involvement and growth of the sport.

BTW... the Black team beat a decent Division 2 team (Hofstra) last weekend. Why that would be embarassing? I have no idea.

nothing wrong with 3 teams. neumann had 4 at one point. 1 ecrha and 3 pcrhl. it helps to show the school that incoming students have an interest also. i think drexel had 5 or 6 at one time also.

You guys are taking this the wrong way. I think its great to have more teams, but I was just stating that it may have not been the best route for a team that bases its name on winning like LU.

What should they call them, then?

Not trying to be a ****, but I just don't see how the name association is that significant...

Re: Why did Lindenwood and Merimac create extra teams?

perhaps "Lindenwood Unbeatable", "Lindenwood Really Good" and "Lindenwood Not Really Great" would be more appropriate?

They represent their school, whether they are having a winning season typical of their best, or not... Every player on that team, regardless of talent, has earned that honor by making the squad they did...

It seems like the black squad wasnt that hard to make. Not trying to be a jack ass or anything, but it seems like if you didnt make the Gold team, instead of packing your bags, you got put on the black team.

Just like pretty much every other B team in the country? It's a club sport.
