Skaters wanted for InLine Cup

The Polar Bears women's team has openings for two skaters to play with us at next week's InLine Cup tourney in Las Vegas (Oct. 6,7,8).

This is the tightest, most caring group of players I have ever worked with, these young women would die for each other on the floor. Silver Medals, and National Team Sportsmanship Award in this year's USAHIL youth championships.

Question: Who go the bronze medal at this years USAHIL National's in the ONE female division they had?

Answer: No one. They only had 2 teams in one division, so your team had no choice BUT to get a Silver medal.

It is not fair to prospective players to purport you were a legitimate Silver Medalist in a legitimate National Tournament, when only 2 teams played and one was the local rink team.

Over the past six years, Polar Bears teams in all divisions have made it to USA Hockey InLine National Championship games seven times.

During the same time period, Polar Bears teams have won the National Team Sportsmanship award nine times.

Contrary to Phil's marginalizing description, this team and these girls are exactly what most players would like to play with.

Ya know...we see everyday at work, and in society, those people who don't take care of responsibilities. or just put in the day, not really doing the good job. People just don't really "show up" anymore...we've all seen it.

Phil, why would you belittle the accomplishment of these girls? They travelled an average of over 2,000 miles (one way) to make it to this event. They played every game well, and improved as a team every time out. Every game was in hand for both teams. The Fishkill Girls accomplished every thing the Polar Bears did. One team got Gold, one Silver.

Phil, the girls "showed up."

Which is more than a lot of people in all parts of life, eh? Which is one of life's lessons we should have our kids learn through sports, eh?

These girls (both teams) did just fine.

Sorry if my portrayal of the girls' accomplishments (which are tremendous) doesn't sit with your sense of reportage.

I don't know either person involved, or little about the teams, but the purpose of this board is not to take needless shots at people, and i am referring to "ImOvaHereNow". Furthermore you felt the need to sign up for the board just to do so. I'm sure Danny runs a first class organization, as i have seen no evidence otherwise on the board, and he shouldn't even feel the need to defend himself against such low-class attacks. Is it his fault there were only 2 teams in the division? To whom is it unfair? It doesn't seem like anything he said was false, and you only gave his advertisment more attention... again i have no interests or relations to anything involving the subject, but attacks like that shouldn't be tolerated... it's a game...

To the Snake22: I have been a member of this board since 2003-4. When Mike Burke took over the formatting recently my other sn was no longer usable with my antiquated computer systems. I was known Defense 1st. I always put my name on my posts, and generally even include my phone and/or email.

As Danny knows, since he and I are web board aquiantences with very similar goals, my shot was in no way to denigrate the accomplishments of the Polar Bear team or its players/coaches or the Fishkill team.

What I was pointing out as a member of AAU Inline Hockey's Women's Board that USAHIL, an organization within which Danny has influence and is their "main" women's/girls protagonist, again put on a 2nd rate women's division. AAU has perenially had the top level teams and players in the Women's division. This year we even had a 10u girls and 12u girls division with 3 teams each.

I apologize. This was not meant as a personal attack. I did not mean in any way to put down you, your players or program (the Polar Bears) or any of their/your accomplishments; I completely mispoke.

I think it is a great idea that USAHIL has recognized they should not be in the tournament business and has agreed to run their Nationals as a division of Narch. The girls who now play nationals will be guaranteed real competition, 3-6 teams in each division and more fun than they could have ever had.

I even think AAU should step out of the tournament business, as the appointed "governor" of the inline hockey program that USARS has been given NGB status over by our USOC; I think AAU should run programs, build the sport, administrate, set rules, manage the insurance program, manage and run the Team USA programs for Males/Females etc.

But I do not think they should be running regional tournaments. I think USAHIL sanctioning regional tournaments such as ECHO, 2Hot4Ice, Topcat, 6Pac and others is the correct way to have players qualfiy for Summer Nationals such as Narch and USARS and Junior Olympics.

But like anything else, it is only my opinion.

Again, I apologize to Dan Guard and the Polar Bears players and families for my mistatement.

like i said, i don't really know anything about the people involved here. i just thought your first post was pretty harsh and unwaranted from what i could read on the board... but it's classy of you to apologize, not to me but to danny. it seemed pretty clear that your beef was with the tournament having only 2 teams, but it was more directed at the innocent girls involved... gl to both teams in the future...

Polar Bears want to say 'Thanks!' to all the usa hockey inline gang, and the other six teams that participated in this year's women's div at the InLine Cup...

We felt the competition was very solid. Revision, Easton/'Fudgems', Dry Ice, Colorado Crush, and Excalibur were all quality teams, with impact players. The Pink Panther squad and ourselves were less experienced, but both these teams really got after every game nonetheless...there wasn't a single throwaway game in the whole tourney...

The Polar Bears now (it appears to me as the coach...but how many times is the coach at the back of the bus?) have a real nucleus of players that are very dedicated to each other...or maybe that speculative "when we're fifty" saga was a crack at me???

Anyway, our team had a great time. It is indeed the other teams and players, the organization, and your teammates that make a tournament, not the stupid floor...look forward to a triumvirate of events next year...NARCh winters, NARCh finals, and InLine Cup...

...hope to see evrybody there, out on the blue floor!
