Revision wheels

On the "old board" I had posted that I was skating on Revision wheels and had no problems. I broke my first wheel last week (I'm guessing about 15 games after I got them). Broke the wheel off the hub, since the life from this wheel was better than the Rink rats I had had before I may try them again at some point. Next wheel: Labeda Fuzion... I'll see how it goes.

Don't waste your time with mushie wheels... just stick with the RV's. I'm reffing 2 nights a week, men's league games 2 times a week, plus on-rink training for the PIHA season... have had the same set on for the past 2 months and no problems at all. Just my personal experience and 2 cents worth.

I tried a set of revision wheels (the stickiest ones) last year at nationals and hated them.
I weigh between 168-172, which is light, but I still couldn't grip with them at all...
Rink Rats are better.

KillinAintShe: I don't know how long you tried the set of Revisions for, but i can tell you that you definitely need a couple hours worth of skating to get used-to the feel of how they grip. If you used them once and didn't like them because you didn't grip... this might be the reason why.

Update... same conditions in my above post, 4 months and counting on my set of all Plat's while weighing 200lbs.

Could be.

I gave them to another guy on my team (200+) and he loves them. Of course, he uses wheels for 2 years after they should be changed, so of course he does...

edit: RinkRats are good to go as soon as they're put on, that's what I'm used to... probably my fault.

I ended up breaking a few of mine... but Im a bigger guy (225 lbs)
no suprise.

Yeah, as corny as it sounds, if you stick to their wheel matrix, you don't have wheels blowing out quite as frequently. And it's not like other wheels where if you get the next harder durometer wheel, you sacrifice a boat-load of grip. I have no idea how they do it, but I rotated in gold RV wheels on the front and back, and then bronze in the middle two positions... and i still had a lot of grip and the wheels actually lasted me alot longer.

I have had revisions for almost six months and have had no problems, they took a couple hours to get used to but they work great now

I had the Revision wheels on my skates (Gold outside and Bronze inside) I never had an issue with wheels before. I've never chunked a wheel until now. Last week I somehow managed to chunk 3 wheels in the same day. I guess the Revision wheels aren't meant for someone my size that cuts and stops the way I do.

My son an avid and exclusive user of Rink Rats tried the Revisions recently for 3 games and after falling down 15 times from trying to stop and skidding out he changed back to the old Rink Rats Hornets (red) and said, "Why fix what isn't broken!"

At 5'6" and 175 lbs, he tried a set up of Plat-Bronze-Bronze-Plat and just was not satisfied with their grip.

They do seem to work well for other with a smoother skating style, who do not play with his recklessness.

Just a quick question... why did he have a Plat-Bronz-Bronz-Plat setup? Why didn't you go with Gold's in teh middle or even all Plats instead? If he's using Red RR Hot Shots, then he probably would be fine with all Platinums.
I agree that you shouldn't fix what isn't broken... but if your son has another chance to try them and has a full Plat setup, give them a whirl in practice/open hockey rather then games. They definitely take time to get used to but are worth the initial whoa's. I'm a reckless 200lb skater myself, for what it's worth.

Just got back from Premiere Inline (the pro shop at the Sportsplex in Feastersville, PA) and I decided to get the Revision wheels again. Even though they chunked on me, I still love them.

I just got Mission wicked 3 skates. They come with RinkRat MB816 wheels. Skated about 4 hours in them (2 games, 2 practices) and one of my front wheels now has a small crack in it. I can still skate in them, it's just that the ride isn't quite as smooth as when they were brand new. So I think I will eventually switch to all gold Revisions. Do you guys think I can/should buy 8 revision wheels and then relplace the rinkrats only when one breaks? Is it a bad idea to skate with 7 rinkrats and 1 revision? If so, how do you guys go about changing your wheels?
