Hi Folks,
Here's a follow-up story from the same event. "Interesting" claim on where Namibia stands in international play, and a pretty outrageous game-winning goal.

Rich, That's a great find but I almost went to snopes to check to see if the report was bogus. Nambia?
A little google found the site for the Coastal Pirates and it's way better than most roller web pages. Using the glove for their departments was very clever. Here's the link:

Hi johnny2suede,
You're right. It is an excellent web site. Maybe if the sport continues to grow in other countries, it will help give North American inline hockey a shot in the arm.

Inline hockey has a great advantage over ice hockey throughout the temperate climates. Enjoyed the website thanks for the link Richard. Everyone should take a look at this site.

Hi Mike,
You make a great point about inline hockey's advantage in temperate climates. I remember that when I was at Triathlete magazine, the sport was dominated by Americans. That changed as athletes from different countries came into the sport. I wonder if we'll ever see teams from non-ice hockey countries eventually win an inline hockey world championship.
Thanks for your post.

Being in Williamsport PA and having the chance to see kids come from all over the world to play baseball, I see that the countries do have made the sport their own (as Japan did post WWII, Latin America), although the U.S. Military seeds many of the leagues/teams from Europe/Middle East.
It starts with the seed though. Since hockey is so equipment driven, it will certainly take a driven group to make it happen (ala Namibia). Soccer certainly has the advantage there - the World's current sport. All you need is a ball (wrapped up rags if nothing else). Oh for the days of pick-up school yard hockey on steel wheeled quads with sticks that didn't cost more than my first used car!

awesome website, it seems as though roller hockey draws more spectators there for a tournament that we can here for PIHA games, or even Narch or Torhs Pro games..
i can tell you that it would be pretty cool to go over there and play in one of those tournaments and see the atmosphere
i'm not slow, i'm patient
