    Girls' USAHIL Nationals

The Polar Bears, based in El Paso, TX, but with players from all over the country, have a couple of spots for players to join the team.

We plan to play in the USA Hockey InLine youth National Championships in Connecticut, June 27-30, and also in the USAHIL InLine Cup Adult Championships, in Las Vegas, October 8-10...

Our team has played in these prestigious events for several years. We have won some, and lost some. We welcome any new player who would like to be part of the team.

We are playing in the 16 & under division at the youth nationals. Girls born in '92-'89 are eligible.

In the past, we have played in the 18/19 year old division, as the tournament combined age groups. We anticipate actually playing in our age group this year, but tourney participation will determine that.

The age eligibility of the adult nationals for the Womens divisions is 13 & older.

Please email me at [email protected], if you would like to consider playing with us.

    Thanks!

    -Dan Guard,
    Coach, Polar Bears

    Danny,

What are the divisions this year for USA Nationals girls/women.
Do you think there will be more teams due to the fact that USA and AAU offset their dates.

    Rich:

They are offering same-as-boys...8,10,12,14,16,18/19...I am sure that some of these will need to be combined, although more and more girls are playing, with your Colorado program as a great example, so we might be surprised.

Regarding players perhaps wanting to participate in both AAU and USA Hockey InLine national events this summer, I am uncertain how it is nationally...locally in El Paso, most players are doing one or the other...I am pretty sure that most of the Colorado girls are taking advantage of quite a lot of all the opportunities this summer.

    See you this Friday...

    Dan, Rich:

Let me know when the jaguars sign up their girls, TMD signs up their teams and the Bordercat's do the same; then GEAR will put together 2 teams and spend way to much money to travel all the way to Shelton, Ct, to spend $100 a night for a hotel and $20 per person per meal to play.

Sorry, the competition and the cost effectiveness runs through Taylor, Michigan and Mississauga, Canada.

    At least for my teams.

Phil, Looks like there will be less 12u, 14u and 17u girls teams at JO's this year, what do you think. Steph is out and so are the pink wings.

I still think that with the Bordercats, TMD, the Jags, the Cal Selects, your team, and mine, going east is NOT the way to spend my girl's parents $$$ to play El Paso, the Eagles, Hawaii and Oregon.

Not the question, just wanted to know what teams you knew of for the girls at JO's.

    Re: Girls' USAHIL Nationals

    My guess would be:
Jaguars in 14, 17 and all older divisons
Bordercats in 17 and older divisions
TMD in 14u, 17u and all older divisions
    Cal Selects in all divisions
    Gear in 14u and 17u
That leaves your teams and the independants.

    Re: Girls' USAHIL Nationals

    Phil:

Just interested in making the comparison...

Our girls each individually paid $100 toward team entry and uniforms, and $250 for food and hotel costs for the five days in Connecticut. This means that they got to have a lot of fun for five days for $350, plus air fare (which would be different for each girl, eh?)...

How does that compare to actual expenses in Detroit?

In traveling all over this country, coast-to-coast, having played and coached in tournament inline hockey in over 35 buildings, I find that it is all in how you set up the program that determines the costs.

Our consideration is in the quality of the tournament organization, and the tournament operation itself, that determines our selection for participation.

Please allow me to encourage all girl players and teams to consider playing with us in next year's NARCh and USA Hockey InLine events.

Look forward to skating with you all out on the blue floor.

    Dan,

I am only going to answer your question this way:

    you "CLAIM" the following:

Our girls each individually paid $100 toward team entry and uniforms, and $250 for food and hotel costs for the five days in Connecticut. This means that they got to have a lot of fun for five days for $350, plus air fare (which would be different for each girl, eh?)...
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since I live in Michigan, I cannot tell you what my players are paying for their rooms; I do know that we have 3 or 4 parent chaperones who are sharing rooms in a 1 parent to 3 girls ratio; so if a room is $100 a night, divided by 4 people; they are paying $25 per night per player, and since AAU runs their girls divisions with 4 (FOUR) teams in 2 days (one night or 2 max), if they only play 1 division they can get 4 games for $70. Food I will say $25 per day per player eating healthy (not fast food). So $70 +$50+$50=$170.

Fortunately, Mark Vittese, Dean Keil and I realize the girls just want to play so they come for a week, play in their appropriate boys age divisions, play as many girls divisions as they can (14, 18, Women Silver, Women's Gold and International-Team USA). Most of the girls end up with 12-20 games in a week. against girls, boys and women, in 3-4 divisions for about $600. It is significantly more than claim it cost for your girls to play in Shelton 5 games against the same team; but, the girls play 4 times as many games, go out to the mall together, in groups, movies, chase boys, play with and against each other on different teams. As a matter of fact 2-3 of the Canadian Women's team members stayed after the World games were over and played on the Jaguars teams for boys and girls divisions. A few of the Pink Wings are playing with the Jaguars boys teams and Women's teams in their appropriate Division.

Before doing a comparison, you should get your daughter to a Team USA Tryout Camp, and have her come play a few divisions at JO's. Then you can really make a comparison. Costs, Talent level, competition; how the tournaments are run and how the organization really runs.

Not sure how many games USAHIL Nationals had this year, but JO's has 1018 over 15 days. Many teams are getting 6-7 games for their $80 per player. the 12u Elite boys division of 6 teams, gets 5 round robin games before seeding and finals. 14u Boys Competitive had 4 round robin games and then playoffs, where you could have had up to 3 more games if you made it all the way to the finals.

BTW, Jenny Sloatman who played for you at Shelton is playing 14u Girls and 12u Boys Elite with me at JO's.

Ask her what she and her Mom think when it is all over.

    Re: Girls' USAHIL Nationals

    So, under scrutiny,

"to spend $100 a night for a hotel and $20 per person per meal to play.

    becomes:

4 games for $70. Food I will say $25 per day per player eating healthy (not fast food). So $70 +$50+$50=$170.

...for 4, 45-minute time slot, running clock games...

I recognize that we are comparing apples and oranges...I still contend that one opportunity is the better quality of program, and I am sure you feel the same regarding the other opportunity.

The tone and timber of your earlier statement would lead the uninitiated to believe there was thouosands of dollars under consideration here...

I would further contend that your arithmetic compares the same approximate $350 for the same 4-5 days of programming, and I include all the "team stuff" that a girl would get to do, not just the games.

Seems that the opportunities are well neigh the same,

While I could not fault anyone for taking the opportunity that gave them more quantity (multiple divisions of play) over the other, and I could not fault anyone for choosing to go to the closer event, travel costs thereby being reduced, I would then wait for those to support the alternate opportunity on the occassion when it would be the closer...but that doesn't seem to happen.

    Danny,

    Coach Rich here;
You can not compare the two. Years ago you said to me "If you want to play rec. in a national event you go to Usa Hockey Nationals, if you want to play competitive you go to Junior Olympics".
    And you were right.
Teams at USA Nationals would be blown away at JO's. You should hook your kid up with Phil and let her play at JO's next year, then compare.
USA and Narch? What happened, USA throw in the towel?

Please don't give-up! You have a superb style and whilst I don't always understand some of the political drivers affecting this sport in the USA, I find your posts to be an interesting window of What's What, on your side of the 'Pond'.

    Keep up the good works.

Actually, I would welcome your daughter on my team. And you could even help me on the bench.
