Tournaments
I am the coach of a U-14 team and had an interesting situation at a tournament. I have a few questions to ask and would like to see some comments about it.
1)My team played a game against a team who had not turned in a roster. How does a tournament director let this happen?
2)The opposing team then takes a forfeit due to using a player from their other teams roster. Should this game be a 1-0 game or an 8-0 score?
3)They way things were done was, this team took a 1-0 loss and won their second round robin game and were seeded in the gold bracket for the playoff round. Had this been scored an 8-0 loss this team would have been seeded in the silver bracket. The 4th seeded team had a legitimate gripe that had it been that way (8-0) his team, who played by the rules, would have been seeded in the gold bracket.
4)The tournament directors then ask me if my team is interested in playing the 4th place team in a semifinal game instead of having a bye to the final. Basically instead of dealing with the team that had used illegal players for their game, the tournament directors tried to punish my team by making us play an extra game to get to the final, and put both myself and the coach of the 4th seeded team in a tough spot by having us make the decision about how things were going to be handled.
5) To add insult to the whole ordeal. My kids lose to this team in the final and are awarded t-shirts or their efforts. All t-shirts are size adult medium, including those given to the coaching staff.
I really wasn't happy with the way things were done and I'll be sure to never take a team to another tournament run by that series again.
