2008 Olympics
Guys I hate to keep coming back to this but Roller Hockey in the Olympics aint gonna happen unless the powers that be get there act together. FIRS controls all rollersports in international competitiion. The Olympics and our sport fall under there umbrella, This means the good ole boy network of USA RS control the sport of roller hockey as far as international growth. Now we all know, or those that have been to a USARS event that they only care about what happens in Lincoln Nebraska or some rinks in the Northeast and are way to political towards the selfish greed of a few I wish to not name but should. They are way to small minded to get us in the olympics. Now For USA Inline, they do not even return e-mails but they claim to be the best. There intentions are well thought out but there action plans always seem to be a step behind our Ice Hockey Bretheren, So who is going to make this happen. Is there going to be some start up organizing body that can sell our sport to the Olympic committee, Hell we have no one selling our sport to anyone in our country. For all of you who say USA INLINE does just look at the last issue of American Hockey, Inline got one page. USA RS didn't even have the courtesy to show up for a Jr world team tryout in Florida... PLEASE these are going to be the people to convince the world of rollerhockey. Again I say start small. Write to someone at USA Inline and see if they are even in roller hockey for the long haul because rumor is they are trying to pass off the USA Inline to someone else. See if USA RS will even acknowledge that you called or wrote. Our Sport needs a Leader and we need him now. Nothing will happen until that time comes.
Just an opinion Ken Fasnacht

Re: 2008 Olympics
There's not even a national hockey director at USARS right now, well not a speed/artistic guy either after they wore Steege down and ran Jay Ingram out of town.
Funny thing, some big USARS guys like Fromm, don't even have their own leagues register as USARS members, what does that tell ya

Re: 2008 Olympics
My point exactly small time sport led by small time people, If you want bigtime growth you got to have big time leaders. Inline hockey has nothing except one well run series called NARCH. If we want to grow we have to start with them and build. Or USA Inline or USA RS would actually have to care about Roller Hockey which over time they have proven otherwise.

Re: 2008 Olympics
I say we get Pat Croce to set up a plan for inline hockey, sure tis sounds crazy but he likes challenges and is a big time leader i bet if anyone he could make our sport "HUGE"I also agree that Usa Inline does not care about the sport of inline, they sure do nothing to show that they care aboutthe growth of inlinehockey.

Re: 2008 Olympics
FIRS try to have an olympic sport since a long time.
D you know that Juan Antonio Samaranch was a goalkeeper of spanish roller hockey team (real roller hockey) when he was young, he was too the president of spanish roller sport and in Olympics 1992 in Barcelona, Real Roller Sports was a demonstration's sport.
But roller sport, it's 6 sport in one federation and olympic comittee can't choose all theses sports, so FIRS must first choose the only which have a chance to represent roller sport in Olympics.
Really, just one roller sport have a chance : speed.
I explain :
- real roller hockey, yes a demonstration sport in barcelona but not many players and not a lot of money.
- artistic, not a lot of money, players...
- speed. A quick development around world, new professional competition, good sponsors.
- inline hockey. A quick development around world, new professional competition, good sponsors. BUT a big problem :
Not only one international governing body but two : IHHF and FIRS.
And this is the reason why some others sports as surf don't go on Olympics. Olympic Comitee don't want to have juridic problem if they choose one and not the other international governing body.
Yes IHHF and FIRS want to do a unique world championship, maybe next year, but i think it's to late to be present in Olympics entrance.
The situation of inline hockey in Usa, is not very important in the choice.
In a lot of sports, in Usa, you have many many federations, independant league, but USA Olympics Comitte choose the best governing body for represent USA in Olympics.
But who will choose the best international governing body at end to represent inline hockey ?
Ciao.
