Thread: Erica Lindros

Erica Lindros

Erica Lindros was named to the Training roster for the Canadian Olympic Team. Although I understand he is an awesome player while healthy, I do not agree with this decision.
Pro players are role models for kids to look up to and his message is one of total arrogance and selfish behavior. Not to mention his Dad is a ********.
Is this sending the right message to junior players? An opposite message could have been sent by leaving him off the list.
What do you think?

Re: Erica Lindros

and you base your opinion on what. Do you know him or his dad?? or are you a victim of the media?? Why wouldn't Canada want to see if he will be able to help the team, especially if he is healthy.

"his message is one of total arrogance and selfish behavior. Not to mention his Dad is a ********."
can you please clarify this??? What do you mean??

thanks

You have to be kidding right? What planet do you live on? Obviously the guy is not setting an outstanding message by always demanding more money, refusing to play for certain teams, demanding to be traded, and just being an all round putz. You don't have to know him personally to come to this conclusion.
As for his Dad, probably fair to say a ******** by association.
I agree whole heartedly with the Australian guy, you sound like a kiwi or something.

Re: Erica Lindros

First off none of you would call him Erica to his face, all hiding behind the comfort of the keyboard..feeling all big and strong

Second, I don't think turning down a guaranteed 8.5 million makes one selfish

Thrid, Have you ever tried to deal with Bob Clarke?

To get on with your half truths, if he's not on an NHL team, they have stated already that he will not be chosen, so if Clarke wants to keep him from playing in the Olympics he can because he's a smug bastard

Also, how many of you have refused to play for teams in your neighborhood because they sucked or teams didn't want you to play for them because you sucked. Most of us have refused to take certain jobs, nothing different there, semantics aside.

So you don't like the guy, I could care less either way, but coming out here and making fun of him just makes you the *****, if you really want to let him know, fly to CA for Bauer Cup when he's holding clniics and working with kids or go to the Training Camp and do so...

As for an Australian making fun of a Canadian hockey player...please...i've seen you guys play, the Canadian women's team could give you a beating...

Re: Eric Lindros

Well said GM, it was a bold move to refuse to play for Quebec way back then, but now he is just a pawn in Bobby C's chess game. I would imagine these 2 hockey players (cowtown and ozzie) have no idea about what goes own at NHL level or how much time Eric puts into kids, especially because he is not playing. I suppose these 2 blokes think Gretz doesn't no what he is doing by inviting him to the camp. Ignorance is okay, but to share it aggressively in a public forum!!! Come on guys.
As well GM, with regards to your other post, probably a good bet that Richard is on the road or even in Florida and that is why there has been no update with regards to IIHF Worlds. The Fins sure must be strong; I believe that is 2 years in a row for them.

BTW cowtown for your info Go Wallabies--tri Nations is theirs for the taking

Re: Eric Lindros

To say the least I am no great fan of Lindros as a player, But to associate everything he has done wrong or appears to have done wrong because of the media and Bobby Clarke is no reason to keep him off the olympic team. His skills alone warrant a tryout.

As far as this role model thing, Pro players are role models sure but they are also human and make mistakes and sometimes use poor judgement. I have seen first hand that Lindros give to kids who love hockey so if you critique his bad give props to his good. This role model thing is way to overblown anyway. Many of you in rollerhockey do exactly what Lindros has done, I can name 40 players in Florida alone who don't play for there local team and travel hours to join up with teams with better reputations than try and help the team in there area that maybe only one player away. And I'm sure this practice happens all over the country.

I have also seen first hand how the top roller hockey players act wanting free equipment, rink time, and expenses to play for top teams yet you never see them doing a clinic or work with less skilled or younger players. Our sport is stagnant because we have to many takers and not enough givers in rollerhockey now. Lindros maybe a bad boy by NHL standards but I witness much worse every week at our tournaments, Parents acting like jerks, players acting like thugs, Coaches trying to win no matter the cost. Lay off Lindros, he has enough problems fighting with Mr. C,a battle he has no chance to win, and start making role models in our sport. We don't have nearly enough. Remember the game will only grow from what we the participants give back.

Re: Eric Lindros

I defienely agree with KenFas...There's a lot of people in the philadelphia area that spite lindros for his reasons not to play and refusing to be traded to certain teams...but bobby clarke hasnt exactly gave the guy open arms, he refused the 8.5 million dollar contract because he's standing up for what he feels is best for him and its funny as great as a sport roller hockey is our sport has a face of selfish players. I know a few players that refuse to play for teams unless they get "free stuff" not even at a pro level, this is supposed to be a game. Lindros skill wise is arguably the best player in the nhl while healthy and is a brut of a player but ever since his injuries and trade problems hes good deeds have been overshadowed, the flyers charity events he was always in and did it well, as said before hes always with kids at clinics and so on. By many standards he is a rolemodel for all of hockey, just cause a guy believes in whats best for him doesnt make him less of a role model. Also why is it no one bad mouthed Alexei Yashin and Peca for all their holdouts..esp Yashin who refused to play with years left on his contract what he did was even worse then what lindros did

Booby Clarke,

Suck it up and bring back Lindros. Let him play a month as a self-promotion, and then trade him to the highest bidder.

As for the Olympic team, it's competition based on skill, not ethics or morals (for the most part). Lindros deserves every right to try out and play.

Re: Eric Lindros

First, let me get this straight. I am no great fan of Eric Lindros. He's been a great player whenever he's been on the ice but off it, he has done a few things that make him appear to be nothing short of a brat. Particularly his . People have got to remember that this isn't the only time when Lindros has decided where he wants to play. There has been Quebec and also his junior team. As a professional, shouldn't he play where he is sent to play???

BigTymeSniper I agree with that pretty much anyone can badmouth Alexei Yashin because he held out while in contract. However, Lindros and Michael Peca was well within their rights to hold out as they have completed their contracts and are well within their rights to get the best deal that they can get. In a perfect world, players would be like Peter Bondra who asked to be traded to where he could get a good deal yet performed to the best of his ability for his team. Alas that perfect world does not exist.

However, I say get the deal done, any deal. Lindros is too much of a talent to be allowed to sit on the bench.
