goal skate setups
I appologize ahead of time for the length, but wanted to be clear..
I have searched the majority of the posts but am not finding the info I need. I am primarily an ice goalie but play inline, mostly on sport court, for Ironman tourneys and when it's not too hot (texas). I have an older pair of Graf "pro goaler" skates that were sharpened wrong and ruined in the middle of a tournament. Since I replaced them with a new pair for ice, I was thinking about converting the old ones to inline.
Currently I'm using a Mission HiLo setup with the 2nd (from front) wheel removed. Don't have a clue what wheels I have but they're orange
. I am not a very strong inline skater, well actually I skate fine, but have a hard time stopping at high speeds. My main areas of concern are slippage when I push off, broken toe 2x from slapshots, and alot of bruising/pressure on the back and insides of my ankle. So the question(s) are:
1. Would I be better off just buying inline goal skates? If so, what?
2. What chassis/wheel combos would you recomend with the Graf skate? And how does that work, do they just cut the cowling off just above the blade and rivet the new ones on?
3. Should I stick with my skates and just cut the upper boot down so it's more like a goal skate?
4. What wheel combos do you use? Do you have different "grips" in the front for pushing with the toe, but less in back for sliding?
I guess what I'm looking for is for some other goalies to fill me in on what works for them and why, so I can decide the best way to go.
Thanks, in advance for any help.
By the way, I'm Karen. I play ice in Richardson and Euless, and inline in Arlington. I've been reading and lurking for over a year, but finally decided to post.

Re: goal skate setups
I dunno about you but I dislike my mission skates.
I am playing in goal with a hi-lo set.
I cannot afford to buy goalie skates-PRICEY for a rec league.
Do you find that the missions are to wide for your feet?
They are on mine and I am getting different skates-
Maybe CCMs.

Re: goal skate setups
I don't really like my missions either, but they're not too wide.
I think what I'm leaning toward is cutting off the upper ankle part of the boot and experimenting with some different wheel setups. At least that will be the cheapest method and I don't like the skates that much anyway if it doesn't work.
I know there has to be some more goalies on this board. I would really like to get some ideas on what to try, especially what type and/or size wheels might work.

Re: goal skate setups
Joey: if Missions are too wide for your feet, you may have a problem finding comfortable skates. Mission's are generally the narrowest boot available in most models.

Re: goal skate setups
Puckracer,
I did get the upper part of the boot off my players skate to make them like goalie skates. It did not feel that much different to me then not cutting them. I am trying to find an inline chassis to put on my CCM goalies skates. I just can not find a chassis that will work. I wish they sold more then one Roller Hockey goalie skate. I hope this helps.
