Just curious, has anyone else noticed some of the parallels between the potential NHL changes and the game of roller hockey. I was watching NHL.com's video of the NHL "concept camp" that was just run to work on ways to increase scoring and action. These are just a few of the similarities...
-4 on 4 concept: recently reccomended by Ken Dryden
-new offsides rules: they experimented with the concept that's very similar to whats used in MLRH as well as not having offsides at all, among others.
-blue ice: looks very similar to sport court. Used this season in NY, in AHL
-severe evforcement of all obstruction calls (cleans up the game. Makes the flow look more similar to RH)
-shoot-out: instead of OT, or in addition to.
Just interesting to think, if these concepts were to be used in the NHL, we would have the RHI on ice.... in some ways.
Hopefully some will be implemented to make the game fun to watch again. Let the guys like Forseberg, Sakic, Lemieux etc. have a chance to display their talent, and let brodeur and the other goalies with trapping defenses earn a check :-) jk.. (Not to take anything away from Brodeur, & other goalies but lets face it... if todays goalies were playing in 1993 NHL, the GAA averages would probably not be as low.)
