Curious

Hi Folks,

I'm a fan of USA Hockey and USA Hockey InLine, but I have to wonder about the following award for 2005:

***

USA Hockey Distinguished Achievement Award
1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team

The award is presented annually to a United States citizen(s) who has made hockey his or her profession and has made outstanding contributions, on or off the ice, to the sport in America.

***

Does this mean that there was no other worthy candidate for this award? I find that a bit hard to believe. It's sort of like giving the 2005 Journalism Award to Woodward and Bernstein...

Richard, Sounds like they were just trying to give the award to a brite spot in their history that recently got looked at again. The 1980 Olympic team will always be looked at as making the biggest impact on hockey in United States. This is my opinion and you do nat have to take it series. I do not know all the facts about the decesion.

25 years ago. It makes a little bit of sense, since it's a milestone anniversary.

Hi John,

I'm sure that's what USA Hockey was thinking. I just feel a bit sorry for the person who might have won the award this year and couldn't because it happened to be an anniversary year.

Hi Mike,

I'm sure you're exactly right, Mike. It was one incredible achievement all those years ago, when I was a wee lad of 2 or 3.
