Proud Dad

Last Easter w/e, on our way to the Grandparents house for dinner, my 5 year old son asked if he could ride his bike without his training wheels. I was shocked at his request yet excited. After dinner Mike and I went outside where I proceeded to remove the training wheels. After holding his seat for 10 feet or so, he said let go. He continued to ride his bike all afternoon, without Dad holding on, without incident, without training wheels and with Dad constantly saying to anyone walking by how it was his first time and how proud Dad was. Not that my huge smile couldn't have given it away. Being a Dad is wonderful. Just thought I'd share that story. Five days later and I'm still beaming!

Children are the best ego boosters in the world. Animals greeting you at the door happy to see you are a close second (for those without children, whose animals are their children).

Spider's short story was so good, that my posting seems like an imposition, but I want to echo the sentiment...

Three years ago, my little girl was first eligible to play in our teen/adult league. Our "Friday Night League" is for novice-intermediate adults, and intermediate-advanced younger teenagers (13-15's primarily).

Last Friday, she and I played on opposing teams for the first time ever. I could barely skate for minutes at a time, I was so in awe at how she controlled the whole game for her team.

Her team, with her as the field quarterback, beat mine by 6 goals.

Good story. I'm not a dad, but I am an uncle several times over. A while back, when she was five, my niece Morgan saw a photo of me in my ice hockey gear.

She said, "He looks really big and strong, but he's wearing pads. Ice is snow that they roll really flat." [img]/wtimages/icons/cool.gif[/img]

My nephew Marcus used to work as a bench assistant for the Las Vegas Flash in that team's one year in RHI; he also swept the floors at one of the IIHF World Championships in Anaheim, California.

One great thing about being an uncle; you get to give the kids back at the end of the day. [img]/wtimages/icons/wink.gif[/img]

Great story Danny. Isn't that feeling of pride like no other. That team line hand shake at the end of the game must have been awesome. Congrat.
