Got my skates!!!
Woowoo!! I got my skates, finally! Ok, so they're not 2001, tricked out, Mission models but they fit my feet!
I ended up finding a pair of CCM 750 98' skates and Im MEGA impressed with the skates. The boot is top notch! The chassis is a little "outdated" but the skates look and work great.
One thing I did noticed is that I haven't been able to get the skates on tight enough. I've never own skates before so I after an hour or so and bleeding knuckles I figured I need to break them in? Break them in and they will fit tighter?

Re: Got my skates!!!
If I can get them tight enough for this Wed I will go to a pickup.
For now though, they are very unstable

Re: Got my skates!!!
where do you live
maybe i could play

Re: Got my skates!!!
I live in Orlando, Florida. You live in PA
Too far... I appreciate the offer though.
I actually played with a few kids not long ago (younger than you) and it was very challenging

Re: Got my skates!!!
Ahhh.. time for the good ole breaking in of new skates
....you will be hurting for a while my friend...
you will hear all kinds of theories on "soaking ", "skate baking", and other "voodoo" stuff... but basically, it's SWEATING and SWEATING in them to get them to form to your feet... be aware that it will probably take a good 6-8hrs or more of hard skate time to get them comfy... good luck... glad you got some that fit your SKIS... I guess "hookedonhockey" doesn't even come close to how ya are feelin now eh?? enjoy.... j-bo

Re: Got my skates!!!
J-bo,
It's ridiculous...I've played hockey several times in the past but never was in the position to buy the equipment etc. Always going back to hockey....it has past the test of time and needless to say I love me the hellz out of this game.
On the skate subject: Im really scared of skating with them. Every time I start going fast I feel like my ankles are going to snap and lose control. I know the fit is great and I dont have narrow feet (as you can see I've been worried). But Im going to wear these boogers all day and funk them up with my hammer scent and hopefully I will be able to get them tight enough.
This might sound silly but I sure as hell didn't expect this. I thought it was just a matter of tying them on and off we play
I did read Nike's ice skates are playable out of the box. Maybe I'll get a pair of Nike ice skates. There's just something "dirty" about buying Nike hockey gear. They are just such a big company they can afford to jump into any sport. I rather buy from the olden' time hockey companies like Hespeler, CCM, Tour, Bauer, etc.
Peace and thanks for the kind words!

Re: Got my skates!!!
Probably! I did see Nike making an inline chassis which Bauer uses.

Re: Got my skates!!!
know i think about it my helmet is made by nike and the cage is bauer
-
Re: Got my skates!!!
NIKE=BAUER on all stuff..
There isn't a skate made that doesn't need to be broken in.. after all.. it is leather, ya know. from a cow..
I don't think anyones foot is shaped like a cow is it? didn't think so..
But seriously...Nike skates are no different than any others.... there ARE some that are easier to break in though...but nothing is comfy fit right from the box... your feet will still get sore .. sorry.. j-bo

Re: Got my skates!!!
Breaking in skates flat out sucks. There is hope, however! I've broken in 2 pair of CCM ice skates and you'll be fine in 3-4 games. As far as your ankles feeling like they're going to snap, it's probably a matter of developing those muscles and proper/effecient stance and technique. Hang in there brah, the glory will come soon enough!
