    NARCh News

    Hi Folks,

Here's some news from NARCh -- from our neighbors to the north:

Toronto-based Roller Hockey Team Wins Silver Medal

York Mission Triumph Juniorā??s win Silver, Menā??s Team takes Bronze at North American Roller Hockey Championships in Reno, Nevada

From January 9-17 the best roller hockey players in North America gathered for the 8th Annual North American Roller Hockey Championships WinterNationals in Reno, Nevada. 174 teams converged on Reno for a week in January, with Canada represented by 11 teams, 4 from the GTA, 6 from lower mainland BC, and 1 from Quebec. There were also 5 teams from the United Kingdom, one from Japan, and numerous teams from roller hockey hotbeds such as California, Michigan, New York and Missouri.

The York Mission Triumph, representing York Region/North York sent teams in the Junior (21 and under), Division 1 (25 and under) and Mens Platinum Divisions. The Junior Platinum team finished in second place taking home a silver medal. The Junior Triumph played a strong round-robin and knocked off defending champion Mission Empire Snipers from New York in the semi-finals. They eventually bowed out to the Nike Buffalo Wings by a score of 3-2 in the Championship game. The Menā??s platinum team played a perfect 3-0 round robin before being upset by the Mission Lucky Charms from Southern California in the semi-finals. The Menā??s team would earn the Bronze medal for a third place finish. The 1989 Oakville Coyotes captured the silver medal in the Bantam Gold division.

York Mission Triumph teams play out of York Inline, a local league operating roller hockey programs for all skills, all ages, all across York Region and North York. For information on programs for youth recreational, youth elite, adult, 35+ or female leagues please check out www.yorkinline.com or call 905-771-6275.

    Sorry Richard...

"the men's platinum team played a perfect 3-0 round robin before losing"

They lost to the Savage Wolves in their first round robin game 2-1. But in fact the Wolves felt that the York Mission Triumph was probably the strongest team they played, and were a bit surprised not to meet them again in the finals.

    Re: NARCh News

The North Eastern US and Eastern Canada showed very well in the Men's, Junior's and D1, platinum divisions of Narch (highest division), with the Mission Empire Snipers winning the Junior's, the Buffalo Wings taking the D1 gold, and the New Jersey based Savage Wolves taking the gold in men's platinum as well. This was a first for these age groups in a Narch competition to have so many gold medals going back to the Northeastern US.
