Preston Phoenix played host to BBC TV on Saturday 8th January 2005, as they trained at their base at Preston College Sports Centre.

It was all due to one of their players Spencer Ashton, who had written into the programme On-Air, a programme where the Presenter takes part in that person?s activity, in Spencer?s case Inline Hockey.

The program produces over 13 hours of continuity links between other programs each week, broadcast on the BBC's CBBC channel as well as other BBC channels.

One of the programs strands that is currently very successful is that of "By Invitation Only" where a viewer writes in and invites one of the presenters to hang out with them and join in with an activity that they are passionate about.

In the past viewers across the nation have had the presenters trying out all sorts of things, from cheer-leading at an important Basketball match, making a splash at Underwater Hockey, coming first in a Gymkhana, even taking over from a boring head-teacher at her school assembly! The presenters will try their hand at almost anything.

The BBC arrived at 14:00 with Anne Foye the presenter, VJ Davidson the director and a crew of three, Anne was duly kitted out in all the hockey protective clothing ready to fully participate in the Phoenix training session.

The session started off with a Roller Disco, followed by warm ups and then drills. It was completed with some match practice. Anne took a full and active roll in the session with the Phoenix squad.

The town of Preston is some 40-50Km north west of Manchester in North West England.

CBBC is a BBC television channel dedicated entirely to children's programmes.

Preston Phoenix Roller Hockey Club is promoting Roller Sports by hosting a young persons Roller Disco each Saturday from 3:00 to 3:30pm at Preston College Sports Centre, Preston, which is followed at 3.30pm by a half hour slot for anyone wishing to try Inline Hockey, both sessions having fully qualified coaches in attendance.

Youngsters are encouraged to bring their own skates and the club has an amount of protective equipment available on a loan basis to get them started.
