Anyone else here using Mission D2's?

Hey Guys,

Just picked up a pair of 04 D2c's. Actually my super cool girlfriend bought them for me as an early Christmas present because my Wicked Light's chassis went belly up.

Anyway, Im a bit confused as to how these new Missions are rated, and how they work. They used to have stiffness ratings, and now they do not. The laces are a bit odd with this new DNA technology too. Anyone happen to know about how stiff D2's are? My ol Wicked Lights are rated at 7.5

I HAD a pair (until the chassis snapped) of '00 Wicked lights. I remember paying a pretty penny for them back then. Theyve lasted, well, but the carbon chassis finally gave out and snapped/cracked in a few areas by the axles. These things fit better than the glove on OJ's hand, and I was sad I had to get a new pair. I tried convincing my girlfriend that Heliums were the right thing for me : ) but she told me to dream on. She offered to buy the He350's, but I didnt want a lower quality skate. So I settled on the 04 d2's. Couldnt get her to move up to the D1's, otherwise I would have. I didnt see any D-Limiteds around, were those widespread? I know a guy who runs a hockey warehouse around this neck of the woods, and he had a pair. Hmm..

Well, just looking for opinions on the newer Mission skates. I havent bought a new pair in quite some time. I never fell for that 'vibe' crap either. : )

Thanks!
Jim

Hey Ferecito,

For several reason, this is a PG-rated web site. I apologize if you call a player's wheels "she."

Maybe you could kick in a bit to up the level? Or just change the chassis?

Well, its been some time now with these skates and...

Im not too sure I like them. They started out nice and relatively stiff, but it feels like theyre starting to get a bit flimsy on me, no good. Also, I too cannot keep them tight. Always want to loosen up on me.

Im not sure what stiffness rating these are at, but darn it! they dont feel anywhere near as stiff and responsive as my Wicked Lites did. I was going to take my wicked lite boot and put the new skate chassis on, but i remembered i threw the old boots out when we were in the process of moving

How stiff are the heliums? Im about 5'7 and 150 lbs, so im not a heavy guy...im thinking of upgrading to these at the end of the summer. very unhappy with these d2's currently!

Don't know the stiffness rating, but the D2's are not a stiff boot at all. I had these when they first came out and assumed that they were going to be stiff but found out differently. I weigh 205, so just imagine what kind of problems I had with them. I got rid of in 3 weeks. I now skate on the D1c's and love em to death. Helium's would be a huge plus if you decided to go that route.

Glad to know im not the only one with the problem.

Live and learn I guess. I guess Mission cant be counted on for a good quality skate anymore unless its the top model? I skated on Proto V's and Mod2's for quite some time, and was always happy. Mission used to bring their 'A' Game even to the low models. No anymore, oh well.

You could solve the problem by changing the laces. I too had the problem in my D1, DNA boot and it boiled down to the round black nylon laces they come with. Slap in some good old hockey laces and "reverse thread" the top eyelets and you won't have any issues. My new Helium prototypes are on the way with Purolator....yeah baby!!!
